So every time i got out with my boyfriend he FREAKS out because he thinks we dont get treated as good because he look young, and we don't usually order the expensive stuff. He feels that if we looked older and ordered alcholhlic bev and desert we would get better service, but i disagree. What do you think? Any similar experiences?

  1. Its the places you go, if you wanted to go to a very expensive restaurant, and paid 200 a meal each, you would get treated very well. Cheaper places expect you to play up when your younger, expensive places don't care as long as you pay the bill.

  2. I think it depends upon the restaurant you're going to..^_^

  3. It's funny that you ask that question because I feel the same way.  Servers usually look at people as if A. a good tipper or B. a bad tipper. It's unfortunate that this is how things are.  Server positions are lower end jobs in the US and saddly enough money is what matters.  I think that servers spend their time pampering individuals whom they think would be good tippers rather than distributing all around great service to everyone.  Some servers actually do care about everyone but I think that most discriminate on apperance and items ordered.  So basically, it comes down to money.

  4. I think a lot depends on how you treat the server, behave like a moron you will be treated as one

  5. I have been in the restaurant business for years. I worked in fine dining most of my life and have been the Head Chef at two restaurants. I will first tell you that if you are at an upscale restaurant, you most likely know how to leave your waiter a good tip, and they know it. On the other hand, at your average restaurant, when you are young, you may automatically be judged as a poor tipper as most young people don't always tip very well ( It sucks for those that do). But really, unless your waiter treats you like dirt, who cares whether they think you are going to tip well or not. It sounds like your boyfriend has the insecurity problem and it probably is not your waiter at all. And another thing, how do you act when eating? If you are doing rail slides off the bar, they may not like that....or shooting spitballs? Make sure you are nice and usually you will be returned the favor. Oh, and tip 18-20%. Not to be rude, but it sounds like he might just need a WAAAAMBULANCE!!

  6. No, at a good restaurant every one is treated just as well, regardless of their age or order.

I have been a waitress for over 15 years in over 7 different places .

  7. it's not the age or money, it's the impression and the attitude

  8. Hey Jess,

Waiters and waitresses should no better than to scoff -- regardless of what the customers order.  I think your boyfriend might just be a bit paranoid about it... i've dined at some very fine places but like the burger joints too and i think it just comes down to who is serving you.

i've had bad service and bad treatment at great joints and i've had some of the best service at places where i just had a cup of coffee.  Heck i've been to the same place and had good and bad service- so it comes down to the server.

    Hope that helps.

  9. It's all about respect, If you come off immature or incoherent, a waiter will not show the respect, and usual "good service" that your paranoid Boyfriend expects...I am a waiter by the way...

  10. If you're boyfriend thinks that way then there is no reason people treat him like a child! That's some pretty childish behavior!

Even though I'm 14, I look 18 (and it was like that since I was younger) so I was always treated differently because I look older than I really am. Waiters offer me alcoholic beverages and stuff like that all the time but they never gave me better service, just the same kind they gave my parents.

Take my advice, if they see you or your boyfriend ordering alcoholic beverages, they are not going to treat you better. If anything, they'll treat you worse. I go to a lot of different types of formal parties so I'm automactically taught to not be polite but respectful, There's a difference if you want to get better service.

People, no matter who they are, will treat you well if you know how to act in a situation. It's not about what you do, it's about presence. If your poor man acting rich, you'll be treated like dirt.

  11. I think it all depends on who is serving you.

  12. well i work in a resturant and everyone is welcome we dont treat anyone any diff at the end of the day you are all customers with out customers the buissness does not run. next time your out ask to speak to the manager or ask for there head office address and let them know. im sorry on my behalf for all the resturants out there if you feel this way.

the resturant where i work is a two 4 one and its all cheap so what you order does not matter every sale helps.

  13. i don't think so maybe he is just insurcer

  14. i think it would depend on where you go and the waiters or waitress but you should be treated the same

  15. Generally I feel it depends on who is serving you.  Also, it depends on how busy the server is.  Obviously if the waiter/waitress has multiple tables, they aren't going to spend much time with you.

My boyfriend and I usually just have water and hardly ever get desserts.  We've had both bad and good service at restaurants, even at expensive places.  Besides, if you don't think the service is good, just don't tip.  I know people who own restaurants that say a good portion of people just don't leave good tips.  Generally the older the person is, the more stingy they are with money.
