my girl isnt a big eater, what she does eat i try to make it as varied and healthy as possible - fish, veg, fruits, chicken etc.

but now that im thinking about weaning her off formula im worried she wont get enough vitamins as i know formula is nutritionall superior to cows milk. she will be 1 on the 14th of this month.

what do you think - keep her on formula or withdraw and give her multivitamins?

  1. I think I've had 4 or 6 before.But nothing really happened

  2. No extra vitamins. I had a doc tell me once that if its not needed then it doesn't get absorbed so you are waisting money. I always kept my kids on formula longer just because they were small. They ate regular food just drinked formula til about 15-16 months.

    Stay on the formula.

  3. Have a chat with your health visitor

  4. My daughter is 9 months and breastfed, and her doctor told me that she needs additional vitamins now that she is eating more solid foods.  If you are considering stopping the formula, I would definately give her vitamins.  It isn't necessary to start cows milk just yet, though, so if you would rather wait there's nothing wrong with that.  If she is healthy and gaining weight well, I might just gradually start giving her a little cow's milk in with her formula to make sure it won't hurt her tummy.  If she does well with it, just cut back on the amount of formula in the bottle and increase the milk.  Btw, make sure you give her whole milk.  She needs the fat.  Happy almost birthday to her! :)

  5. def. take her off of formula at a year, it actually won't be helping her anymore than milk will at that time anyways.

both my older girls 5 years, and 20 months. starting taking a Flintstones vitamin at 18 months.

so you could talk o your pediatrician about that.

  6. I would ask the dr 1st but parents have been using flintstones multi vitiamins for years and kids love them.

  7. 2 a day...

  8. free points

  9. No I would not unless she was skinny and a poor eater.

    I take the vitamins myself!!

  10. i do not not give extra she receives a vitamin,,md suggested..

  11. It's a simple fact that as kids enter the toddler stage and start to make decisions about when, what, and how much they're going to eat -- well, they're not nutritionists . . . so a multivitamin can really help round things out and make sure your child gets the vitamins and minerals they need.  Don't be surprised when she wants grilled cheese for every meal in a year or so!  And some of the new juices with both fruits and vegetables in them are great for when you get to this stage.

Generally, babies shouldn't remain on formula past one year unless there is a specific issue or concern and your doctor has recommended that she do so.

  12. some interesting answers you've gotten so far...

My son is 9 months but only drinks about 10oz of formula a day if that.  He eats very very well but I was still wondering if he might need a multivitamin since he doesn't drink the formula.  At his last appointment i asked the doc about him not drinking formula and they said as long as he's drinking water its ok but to keep offering it.

I think the best solution would be to call her doc and ask.  they may prescribe a liquid vitamin.

  13. Hm..I don't actually have a child, but I just wanted to put this up - when I was a kid, my mom started giving me multivitamins at an early age. Just as a precaution - there were some that I turned out to be allergic to because they actually had some sort of dyes in them (these were children's vitamins)...so if you DO, I suggest choosing some that are as "natural" as possible. I definitely don't think it would hurt to try it out though.

  14. well if multivits or formula is the options then formula has to be my answer as multivits aren't worth a tinkers cuss, but best bet is to see your health visitor by far , watever happens i wish you all the best doing wats right for your child

  15. I have 2 good eaters and 1 Picky eater. But I give them all a flinestone vitamin every day. They really do need the extra vitamins & Minerals. At her age I think she is ready to get off of formula, and I would put her on a multi-vitamin.

    Have a great day!

  16. My daughter will be 1 on the 14th as well. :-)

We give our daughter multivitimins once a day in a meal.  We plan on weening her off of the formula when she turns 1, but will continue w/ the multivitamins.  If you are not sure of what you need to do, chat w/ her pediatrician about it and see what she/he recommends.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
