Do you go faster in skiing or snowboarding?

Question

If a skiier and snowboarder were going down a equally steep slope, which one would be able to go faster. If both had the fasted boards possible and going at maximum speed, which would win? Overall which sport is faster, skiing or snowboarding?

Skiing is faster by far because your weight is spread over the entire surface area of the ski without much drag.  Snowboarders have their feet closer to the ends of the snowboard so there is a lot more drag.  Also, snowboards are built much shorter than skis, which gives them less overall surface area.

Skis are faster then snowboards, all things being equal.  However, it usually has much more to do with skill level.

i ski and board and i find that i go faster on my skis.but i like to go fast doing both its fun and thats what its all about anyway.

skier unless you are in powder and the skiier doesnt have backcountry skis. skis ave more mass

skiier, but thats not really a fair example. it usually just depends on the skills. People's maximum speeds are differnent.

I have tried skiing and snowboard and chose snowboarding but there's not really a faster one. I would say that skiers usually go faster because they have better control it would also depend on the weight of the rider and there experience.
