  1. yes, that's totally true.  You could keep the child away for awhile, but once you go to court, unless you could prove that the child's life is in danger, they do have rights

  2. The last time I searched this for our state the grandparents had to meet 3 criteria to even get a judge to hear their case for visitation rights.  One was that the child had to be born when the parents were un-wed, two was that the grandparents had to have financially supported the child, and I don't remember what the third one was.  But it may not apply to your state anyway.  I found some good websites to search your state laws.

Go to this website and click on Resources and scroll down and it will list your state

  3. it depends on the state, and certain criteria must be met. But not too many states (I know Illinois does) have "grandparents rights" laws. But if your husband is in agreement with you, they would have no rights.

  4. Grand parents have no rights other than what their children give them. This issue has been challenged in court and on rare occasions,  grand parent have won the right to see their grand children.

Please try to work out something with the In-Laws so they can have a relationship with their grandparents. That is one of the most crucial relationships they can have. Do not punish the children.

Set your guidelines as to what you expect from the grandparents and them please let them share that precious relationship. Try to put away your personal differences and think of the children. They are the ones who will suffer.

I am a senior citizen and my mother did not like my Dad's mother so I rarely saw her and I missed out on so much. I still hold this against my mother today. I gave my children full access to their grandparents and it worked out great.

  6. the only way they have rights if is your husband was to fight you on the issue which apparently he is not so you and your husband have complete control of your child as long as the two of you are on the same page.
