  1. Houston is really big when it comes to high school football. Some suburbs have some of the best teams in the country.

As for Bellaire, I'm not sure how their football team is, but I do know that it is one of the best schools in the country, hope you enjoy it!

  2. All HISD football teams suck!

  3. Yes high school football is big here but I can't tell you about Bellaire's team. I graduated from Stratford in 1985 so I couldn't even tell you how stratford's team is this yr.

I know bellaire has a great little league baseball program though.

  4. Yeah, football in general is real big in Houston and statewide. I live in California and still follow the teams in Texas because they are the best and I have friends who play on some Houston teams. There are some pretty good players in Houston, the third ranked player in the country is from Houston, Russell Shepard a dual-threat quarterback for Cypress-Ridge.

  5. Bellaire has a good football team. They are big rivals of Lamar who has a really good team this year. Watch NBC on Friday nights for Friday Football Frenzy, it's a show that keeps up with all of the High School football teams.

Glad you chose Bellaire over Westbury!!

  6. Kid, one thing you'll learn about Texas is that "high school football rules" here.

I moved here from your state 32 years ago. My hometown had several state championships in a few decades preceding it. We used to brag that we'd draw 5,000 people a game. I moved here and was amazed at the size of the high school stadium (not college, but high school). It sat 15,000 and was packed. Thing about it, my high school team in Houston was mediocre at best.

"Friday night lights," without the drama and all that is pretty accurate. h**l, back in the late 1970s a high school north of Dallas circulated bumper stickers that said, "Will the last person leaving Plano please turn the lights off." It was because their high school team used to play home games in the Cotton Bowl, 30 miles away.

Oh, and if no one has said it yet, "Welcome to Texas."

  7. It's important, but no so much in that district. The best school in the area is Madison, which is where Vince Young played in highschool.
