  1. We braid the night before then put on their hoods and blankets. It helps, if anything, we have to re-do like one or two braids, which is much better than doing the whole thing at the show :)

    Good luck!

  2. i usually do my braids late at night or early in the morning, so they'll either be too tired to rub them out, or wont have a chance to. i've never had any problems, but if you find that your horse likes to rub them out, i have a nifty little trick that might work. after you are done with your braids, go along the horse's crest and put a few drops of soothing lotion, Avon's Skin So Soft, or mineral oil at the base of each braid. it will help them from getting all itchy. but another approach you can try is braiding a bit differently. i dont know how you braid, but i use rubber bands for everything; no yarn at all. i braid it down, band it at the bottom, fold it up under like normal, and use two rubber bands the color of the horse's mane to keep it up. it looks snazzy and it stays well. i've never had any problems with them trying to rub them out. good luck; i hope you find what you're looking for! =]

  3. Braid the mane early in the morning. You can also buy a Hood (which tend to be colorful with patterns) or a neck shield that is used with blankets.

  4. My trainer makes me braid every morning so the braids look fresh and new.  I think the sleazy (or slinky as you call it) is your best bet.
