  1. i really doubt it, it would prolly make prices go higher.  Less gas people use because of hybrids, the less the gas companies makes, which means they would prolly raise prices more and more.

    thats just a thought though.

  2. No of course not.  The avverage American simply cannot afford a hybrid.  Public transportation and bicycles will become more popular, but gas prices won't be affected by this.  Look at europe where gas use per capita is a fifth of what it is here: in some places there its over 8 dollars a gallon (specifically, Belgium and a few others).  So no, gas consumption wont affect the price.  The value of the dollar and OPEC output are the two key factors.

  3. The prius can get about 50mpg.  I got some information off the Internet that said someone had added a battery pack and now we can get 100mpg on a Prius.  I've gotten information that we have developed a 400 mile hydrogen gas tank.  We have the technology.  Why should huge energy companies want to lower the gas price.  Congress has given them incentives, they're all making over 10mil (CEO's) in salaries.  Go figure.

  4. No..it would make us poorer, for buying expensive cars, and makes the gas companies raise prices because people will still NEED gas, but just not be buying as much.  So they will raise the prices higher, and people will figure a way to pay them, and use less, until we do not use them AT ALL!

Its the only way out.  And if you think CEO's of gas companies are making $10 million, think again.  Try hundreds of millions of dollars.  A powerball winner would look like a welfare case to them.

  5. Of course.

We had this exact situation in 1980.  People conserved gas.  You know what?  Gasoline dropped in price for 20 YEARS.  In 1999 it was the cheapest (in adjust terms) that it had ever been.  It was a constant downward trend for 20 years.
