  1. I seriously doubt it. It has been years since there's been a winner--I think the last was Secretariat, right?--and since the races are so close together, horses that run the entire group of races are tired out by the time they get to the Belmont.

  2. The longer I wait to see another one, the more I begin to doubt it.  That's why so many people want to change the TC trail, they feel it's getting harder and harder for horses to accomplish this feat.

The fact is our horses have been bred for speed in the last 20 years. The Triple Crown requires speed and stamina, and in the past (say 10 years) it seems the stamina" to make it" is lacking.

  3. I think there will be.  Consider 1998 - Real Quiet lost by a nose.  If the Belmont was a stride longer or a stride shorter you wouldn't be asking this question.

Between Citation and Secretariat people questioned seeing another and then there were three in the 70s.  It will happen again.  We are just waiting for the right horse.

  4. Maybe, but the competition is so stiff now.  I thought Afleet Alex or Barbaro would be the next triple crown winner, but it didn't work out that way.

  5. Yes, I think there will be, but it may still be several years.  The odds favor it happening eventually.

  6. I am sure that some day down the road there will probably be another triple crown winner. The problem is the dilution of breeding stock where breeding is more keyed to speed than stamina these days. Most horses arent even bred to get the distance of the Derby, let alone the distance of the Belmont. Also the fact that there are only 5 weeks to run the three races makes it tough on both the horses and trainers who are now more accustomed to giving their horses more time between starts than the triple crown allows. I am not saying that they should change it, but it might be easier on the horses if the races were spread out a little bit more like the Canadian triple crown which typically runs its races over a 2 month span. While it may also make it easier on the horses in terms of conditioning and rest betwen starts, Canadian thoroughbreds also have to deal with a switch from polytrack to conventional dirt track to turf over the course of the triple crown. I would like to see a return to the days where handicap races were truly handicap races. When was the last time you saw a horse in America or Canada carry over 130 lbs in a race, yet in Europe they do it regularly.

  7. i don't think so.

  8. Absolutely!

just because we havn't had one for 29 years doesn't mean were not going to have another one!

we just have to come up with a differernt breeding style but we have had so many close calls like Smarty Jones, and Barbaro.

Barbaro would've most likely won it if it wasn't for the Preakness.

but yes i do think we will have another one and i have a feeling it's gonna be really soon. maybe in the years 2009 and 2010... wanna know why? thats when Nicanor and the other little brother of Barbaro are coming around for the races and i hear they have really strong potential!

  9. Yep, I agree with Greyt-mom! I think there will be another Triple Crown winner hopefully soon! I thought that Barbaro or Smarty Jones would do it but that didn't happen!

  10. I'm sure there will be someday.  It's just a matter of time until the next great racer comes along and blows everyone's saddle off!  lol

  11. There is bound to be one, but who can say when?  That's why it's such a special thing to accomplish.  Lots of nice horses have come close...even this year, if Street Sense could've gotten his nose in front of Curlin instead of the other way around, maybe he would've tried the Belmont and won...but only the very special ones win all three races.  We'll see one, and it'll be incredible because of the near misses.

  12. I think it's going to happen but I really think the thoroughbred has peaked in it's development.  The strong, powerful bloodlines are being greatly diluted with the overbreeding (around 35,000 foals a year) and so those Bold Ruler, Northern Dancer, etc. bloodlines are being pushed further back in the lineage.  I'm sure there will be an individual who will come along that is much better than the rest of his/her group and will win the Triple Crown, but for me it will not be as significant as the Secretariat, Affirmed, Seatle Slew (and prior) TC winners.  I actually hope it never happens, but that's just my preference.

  13. I think there is a chance because miracles happen. It is going to take a real wonder horse to achieve it, but anything is possible if you have faith.I really hope it happens in the next few years.
