Thinking about getting one of those portable airconditioners you can carry from room to room. If you have one are they any good ?

How is it on your electric bill ?

  1. I have one.

It works good, but was almost double the price of the window AC units. So if you have windows that you can put one of those units in, I'd recommend that instead.

It's not too bad on the electricity bill, but you definitely notice it.

  2. Are you talking about the one that fits in the window or the free standing one? I have a window one and it works good. My Elec. has gone up $30 this month. I think its because I have 2 air conditioners going a dehumidifer, and my pond pump and pond sterilizer. I did hear elec. was going up 30%.

  3. We have one upstairs in the sitting room. When the house was built many years ago  ( not by us ) they did not put a AC vent in there. The room has a window but nothing else, not even outlets. We have not lived here but a little over a year. Other rooms up stairs have no windows or vents or outlets.  We are changing all that now. The AC works good, after 2 months we can't see a lot of difference because we had to buy a new whole house unit recently, and are going to put in ducts in the rooms upstairs.

  4. I have one! The most pain is the water drain! If you don't just connect a hose to drain, and having unit high enough to drain out lower than unit to outside, you'll be having to drain unit constantly into a pan and dumping! Unit will turn off everytime its full !
