[i'm not huge] but should i lose some of my belly fat before piercing it?

give me any type of information.

i really want to pierce my belly, but i'm afraid.

any tips that can give me confidence? :D

  1. so wait until you are 18 cuz if you are planning on doin it yourself it will not come out like you think.

    its sore for quite awhile

like 3 months b4 you can swim would be safe

you have to clean it like 2xs a day at first, sometimes more

  2. i had it but...... it looks bad

  3. My parents don't know about it but I'm 30 so I think I'm off the hook with them whether they like it or not ;-)

YES it will be sore for a few days. It hurts more when you sit so if you are in school or have a job where you sit a lot it'll probably be sore longer. Mine hurt for about 3 days then it only hurt if I sat too long or it got bumped. I've had it about 3 months now and it will still be sore sometimes, like if I catch it on something or if my kid pulls on it.

Mine is still not totally healed and it's still a bit swollen. The lady that pierced mine suggessted cleaning with salt water (sea salt mixed in water) and washing with antibacterial soap, I also put Neosporin on it and that has helped alot. Peroxide will delay the healing process.

I have no idea about the pool, I don't swim. ;-)

I don't know what guage they used. I got a silver ring with a ball, not sure if that's the norm or just what this lady used. It's kinda like when you get your ears pierced - you don't get to wear the pretty ones right away.

I have a little bit of belly fat too, unfortunatley that's what happens when you have a baby :-( but I went ahead and had it done anyway hoping that would give me incentive to go work out. ;-) The only thing I've found with my chub is that the bottom of the jewelry can poke your belly and it can make the pierced part sore since it's putting pressure on it - and some jewelry is not as attractive as it would be if we had nice flat supermodel tummies.

But the kid was worth it. ;-)

  4. I got mine done 10 years ago. I would absolutely NEVER have it done by anyone other than a tattooer/piercer. Don't trust the people at the mall.

DON'T do it yourself. You run so many risks of infection and permanent scarring. It's not worth hiding from your parents because they will inevitably find out - especially when they have to take you to the doctor.

As far as gauge - mine was done with a 14, but I guess that can vary.

You don't need to lose weight - it is a personal choice and something you do for yourself! If you feel comfortable showing it off - do! I am normal sized and felt almost zero pain, but my friend who is super skinny cried. The piercer said that's pretty typical.

Some people have more issues than others with healing, but mine healed within about 6 weeks - I just cleaned it twice a day with H2Ocean (a good piercing place will have this).

    Good luck!

  5. i only had to convince my mom to let me get it done i had it done for a while and my dad still doesn't know. it hurt to get it done it was about a 6 but was only becuase i was so skinny, the skinnier you are the more it's going to hurt. you have to wait a month or so before going into a pool, it can get infected really easy otherwise, that's why its better to wait until summer is over.

to clean it you can either use H2Ocean or you can use a sea salt soak 1/4 tsp sea salt with 1 cup water, 2-3 times a day. With gauge size it depends on your own body, the standard size is a 14 gauge, but mine was done with a 12 gauge becuase i didn't have a lot of skin to pierce.

the jewelry you first get is going to be a banana bar (similar to a curved barbell) and that's the best kind of jewelry for it, when you change it, try not to use rings they catch on everything, stick with the bars, and make sure you get barbells that are a good quality.

don'y worry about losing any weight you don't need to, as long as you keep your current body weight without trying to lose weight or gain weight, the piercing will be fine. You shouldn't be afraid it's such a cute piercing to have just relax and do what your piercer tells you to do, if your shy about showing it off then don't just pretend like you don't have it, too many people try to show off they're belly piercings and it just makes them look like they're trying to prove something.

good luck, i hope all goes well

  6. I was old enough to go my myself to get mine done. It was sore for a couple of weeks. I got it done in the fall so I wouldn't have to worry about a pool situation. Follow your piercer's instructions for aftercare (generally clean twice a day, do sea salt soaks twice a day). Heals in 2 to 3 months (I think). Mine was pierced at 18ga, but some piercers will do 16 or 14ga. Again, your piercer will have his/her preference as to what kind of jewelry is best (may also depend on your body), generally a curved barbell is used. You don't need to lose weight to get it done. Sorry my info is a bit vague, it's been years since I got mine done...but still have it! If you have any questions or are apprehensive, go and talk to the piercer...they're really good at answering questions and walking you throught the whole process before you decide to get it done. And if they're not willing to talk with you, find someone else.

Hope this helps and good luck!
