Do you have a black cat?

Are you aware of the extra dangers black cats face around this time of year? From September to November please use extra caution with your black cats as freaks of all sorts associate them with Halloween and Satanic rituals. Lots of shelters have stopped adopting black cats during this time and smart people take extra care so as not to have their baby stolen and used for everything from a haunted house prop to a ritual sacrifice.

Question: Does your cat have a favorite treat?

I have a black rescued DSH and although he is outside only, he won't come into our house at all as he's been a feral cat since he was born, but he has his own little purpose built insulated kennel & only has the run of our garden as it's secured. So, no-one can get to him without me knowing about it first as they'd have to walk right through our house to get to him. Being very rural here too, we never see kids trick or treating, so that's another blessing :)

As to all the cats' treats, they all love fishy flavoured Kitzyme Conditioning tablets. They get one or two a day after they have eaten their raw food for the day and after their grooming session. They'll all sit in a row waiting their turn......it's really cute, and funny to watch :)

I didn't know that shelters stop adopting out black cats around October, but it's a very sensible thing to do. Poor black kitties! They are adorable and don't deserve all the bad old wives' tales that has floated around for centuries, and I would have thought that society was intelligent enough by now not to keep practicing them :(

I have a black cat and she is fine between September through November. She is a little overweight so her favorite treat is EVERYTHING! lol

Yeh I have two black cats and they're definatly my favorite of the 4 that I have, but one of them always acts really oddly.

I have never heard of black cats around here being taken for rituals, then again, in the UK Halloween is not really a big thing. I don't think the UK quite has the same kind of problem with this.

There are stupid freaks around all year in any part of the word, so we have to be careful with all our cats every day.

Archie favourite treat really is just cuddles =) He likes them more than food!

I have a big ol' black cat and I can't wait til Halloween! I'm going to get him an orange collar and he already has a big pumpkin head so he's perfect. He won't be allowed outside AT ALL because he'd definitely get himself into trouble. He loves chicken and french fries as a treat.

My Venture love fritos. It wasn't something I planned to give her. My husband dropped one on the floor and she went from there. She like them better than her store bought treats.

He's indoor only, so he doesn't have to worry about anything.  Our area is pretty urban, there's only a sidewalk between our place and a busy road and other buildings on the sides, so there are no days here where it's safe to be a kitty outside.

He'll eat just about any, except the meow mix ones.  The overall favorite here is the friskies party mix.  I know they shouldn't be eating that junk but hopefully we'll get some things worked out soon and they'll be on good food only. :)

here in Italy, I have to keep an extra eye out all year for mine... not for halloween and satanic rituals etc as they are not popular AT ALL here, everyone is just soo superstitious. Luckily mine was born with a crooked tail... for some reason people seem to think the bad luck was broken because his tail is crooked...go figure!!

It's a good idea to keep cats indoors period. If a freak doesn't get them, a coyote or stray dog might.

I have a beautiful little black female cat. She thinks she's a big terrifying panther, and we're supposed to be scared and intimidated when she hisses at us, and we are certainly not supposed to laugh at her, even if she only weighs nine pounds. She's ferocious! LOL!

I do have  a black cat, she is  indoors only and on Halloween I put her in a back room so trick or treaters don't even know she's in the house.  Her fav treat are the Feline Greenie dental chews lol

Well, Lucky likes the Pit R' Pat treats whenever I can get him some, but other than that, he tires quickly of treats and toys.

Well said.  At our Emergency Hospital, we start posting signs about this subject as well as reminders on our receipts beginning in September.

Unfortunately,  we have to see the repercussions from the ignorant and abusive people that partake in those horrible acts inflicted upon the black cats who deserve nothing less than to be loved.

Only in America!  I am not aware that we have that problem in the UK.  I doubt anyone would catch my cat as she is quite unsociable.

My cats favourite treat is anything she can steal off my plate!  The other night she discovered cheese.  She is a bit partial to Doritos, Pringles and loves it when I bring home cooked chicken from work.

Yes, I Do Have A Black Cat But Fortunately She's An Indoor Only Cat So We Don't Have To Worry About That.  She's A Very Independent And Laidback But Extremly Sweet.  She Only Hisses When Our Male Tabby T.J. Pounces On Her.

My Neighbor Has A Black Cat Too And They Let Her Outside During The Day But Thankfully During Halloween Season They Know To Keep Her Indoors.

You're So Right About The Adopting Situation Too.  The SPCA Of Texas Will Not Let Anyone Adopt A Black Cat/Kitten Anywhere Between October 1 - November 5.  It's Very Heartbreaking To Know That People Would Pay Big $ To Torture A Little Cat.

I do have a black cat Porky but he stays inside! When Halloween comes I go outside and give out treats or don't do it at all.
