  1. I have a ps3, and I also bought a Toshiba HD DVD player (which is now obsolete). To me, both pictures were very close on my lcd tv. But The ps3(blu ray) is much easier to use and load movies on.

If you dont own a hd tv, dont bother with buying a blu ray. But if you have a hd tv, you dont know what you're missing until you see it for yourself.  No Joke!  The picture is almost 3D like. You will see details you never have before on movies you've seen a million times on reg. dvd.  The colors, the clarity, and the definition is amazing. You will truly be spoiled for life.

But of course that all depends on the quality of the tv you are watching it with as well.

  2. I have a PS3 which plays Blu Rays.  I think if you enjoy watching movies, and you have an HDTV a Blu ray player is worth it.

  3. If you want the latest and greatest technology, then you definitely want blu ray. The picture quality is incredible! I'm planning on purchasing one later this month.

  4. I got a PS3 as a gift, so we've used it for blu-ray movies.

Although a few look really gorgeous, I'm still not convinced blu-ray will ever become the standard and replace DVD.  First off, you need a large (40" or larger) 1080p HDTV to get the full effect.  Anything smaller than that, and you aren't going to notice the difference sitting on your couch across the room.

Of course, a blu-ray player (or PS3) starts at $400 and only goes up from there.  Meanwhile, a good upscaling DVD player is like $80, and I'm not even convinced you need an upscaling DVD player since any HDTV will already have a pretty good upscaling chip in it anyways.

Finally, blu-ray discs are currently $25-30 ea. where as DVD is $10-15 for the exact same movie.  This is why everyone just rents from Netflix.  New tech, old price.

  5. Go down to your local audio video store who has Blue ray set ups.  Even Blockbuster has a ps3 set up playing blue ray DVD's on a 1080p resolution screen.  A blind person can see the difference.  There is no comparison when looking at a regular DVD format.
