Do you have a catheter when you have an abdominal hysterectomy?

Might depend on doctor or hospital but as far as I know, it's yes.

The answer is it's really up to your surgeon, but generally the answer is Yes.

Plan on it. The uterus does, after all, sit right behind the bladder if it isn't completely empty. It's one of those areas where it's best not to go looking for trouble.
