What is it and why do you feel passionate about it? What do you do to promote it? I'm not talking about giving to a church... unless that church does something like feed the poor, etc.

  1. i give 50/50 to the Audbuon society and to CARE.

i give to Audbon because i bird-watch in their centers and i know what they do. they protect habitat, play care-taker on their land (make dear-hunts for example to keep dear from eating all the plants that birds need to live) and have programs for children and adults.

i gave a bit to other land-protection and habitat-protection charities, including one that all it did was buy up land so that developers can't get to it. but i got SO much junk-mail, glossy paper and use-less "gifts" that i abandoned them. i'd give 'em 20$ and i'd get 40$ back worth of junk mail.

so it is Audubon.org for me! (their junk mail is little envelopes and a flier once in a while that i actually like cuz it says when they are having all their bird-watching and other nature hikes)

CARE i give to because as much as i hate humans, i can't be as bad as the throw-away-food americans and still feel supperior to them. i do my best not to throw away food and i give to CARE so they can feed the starving in africa and other places.

what i like about CARE is that 1) they give as little as possible. they teach people to be self-sufficient rather than dependant and 2) they give MOST of their money for actual programs, having only <10% of it returned back at me in the form of junk mail.

while in theory i hate humans for what they do to animals and each other, i imagine there is a child in front of me asking their mommy for food, so that it is actual reality and no theory i'm thinking about, and ask, whould i be able to give food to birds and none to him? nope. i'd give half the food to thim AND feed birds.

so that's what i do, i give to Audbuon for the birds and to protect nature from people, and i give to people cuz like it or not i'm a human too.

andother thing i like is The Smile Train. they patch up split lips. i think that's great because giving poor moms in africa food will just make them give birth to more poor kids, so who am i helping really? but the smile train gives the most bang for the buck. it simply and easily and cheeply improves the entire life of a child already on earth.

but i don't give them much because i give so much to audubon and care. i keep planning to give less to CARE and some to them but i haven't gotten around it it. i guess because they don't send me *enough* junk mail.

hmm, ok, next time, i'll give to those guys. that's it. should reward them for NOT sending me junk mail.

  2. I give to generationALIVE. It is a faith-based organization, but they are awesome with helping children world-wide in things more than just Christian-related stuff.

    www.generation-alive.org

  3. St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  They do great things for many children suffering with cancer and also will treat patients without money based on the donations they receive. They are a wonderful organization that has changed many lives. As a parent I never ever want to see or know of a child suffering with cancer. I donate money, wear their logo on clothing and purchase things the children made.
