How is your produce different from produce grown using pesticides and other methods. Do you sell directly to the public? Is it possible to visit your farm?

  1. i am in California, and i grow heirloom tomatoes for the local farmers market...i use rotation and mulching...mine may be called a organic garden not a commerical venture

  2. Don't know which country you're in, but if the UK - try the organic farm in Ide, Exeter.

  3. Yes, I make my living growing food sustainably and selling it direct to the public. I was certified organic for 8 years and dropped it when the USDA took over but still grow my crops the same way.

The most important crop I grow is soil because without healthy soil I cannot grow healthy plants and that means no chemical fertilizers, insecticides or fungicides because these things kill the flora and fauna in the soil. It is the flora and fauna in the soil that feed the plants and keep everything healthy.

By not using insecticides I get a balance between pest organisms and beneficial organisms that keep the pests under good control

by using a 5 year crop rotation I keep both pests and diseases under control as well as keeping soil nutrients in balance by planting crops that have different needs.

By using compost, green manure, manure, kelp, fish emulsion, various minerals, peat, etc.. I keep the soil well fed and the micro-herd healthy.

All of these things together make for more nutrient dense food.

I am in Ohio and sell at farmers markets and at our farm store.

We do allow people to come out and take a look at what we do by appointment.
