This syndrome is sweeping our nation, infecting millions.

What would you suggest as a cure for this syndrome?

And what danger does this syndrome represent to wildlife and humans?

  1. People need to grow up and realize where their food comes from.  Someone had to kill that cow your eating from McDonalds.  If you don't believe in hunting, owning guns, target shooting, etc, you don't belong in the United States.

As far a syndrome I never new one existed.  I know that some kids get upset when people refer to killing a deer as shooting bambi, but they get over it as soon as they grow up and realize bambi was just a disney movie, and if they don't want to starve to death they'll eat deer, elk, bear, duck, goose, etc or they can go find their own food.

I think that Deer and Elk should be their own food groups though.

  2. Not really. That would require them to spend time in the field actually watching deer behavior, and the people who profess such "love" for critters are not only ignorant, but they prefer it that way. No matter how good the teacher, education requires some willingness on the part of the student, and those folks for the most part would prefer not to let reality interfere with their fantasies.

  3. Tell them to watch how the attitudes of the participants in the Alaska Experiment towards hunting changed when they started getting hungry.

As for dangers... It just results in deer over-population and then mass starvation. Well that and a bunch of deer/car collisions.

  4. More "open" deer hunts with the Nuge!

Deer population will grow at rampant rates, collisions with vehicles will increase more, crops will be destroyed on a larger scale, and I haven't even mentioned coyotes yet...

Maybe let those infected try deer jerky, deer sausage, and deer steaks...I love me some deer meat!

  5. education. Pass the word and use simple terms so they can comprehend.

  6. give them a deer burger, tell them its a hamburger

tell them that this "hamburger" is leaner and healthier then other hamburgers and that it was from a "cow" not mistreated and abused in a slaughter house by others, but rather harvested humanely

  7. Force them to drive down a country road at midnight during a full moon in a subcompact car in November or December at 65 mph. If they live to tell the tale I bet they will have a new take on hunting and overpopulation of deer herds.

  8. I get absolutely livid about "bambi lovers"! Where I grew up...wildlife, was a way of life and d**n near the only way we survived. I'm a home grown country girl. There was nothing..pork, beef, chicken, deer, fish, etc. that was "store bought". Vegetables were grown in the garden and shared with neighbors. We didn't have the cash to run to the grocery (nearest was 30 miles away). We depended on the land. To many ppl have no clue what it is to not have McDonald's or a Wal-Mart on the corner. Given the way things are going, the only ppl that are going to survive are the ones that know how to live off of the land. Strand one of those PETA ppl or Vegans on an island...see how quick their attitudes change. It isn't about them or us..it's about survival and if it comes down to my child or bambi..my child is going to get fed!

I have also had deer, ducks, turkeys, etc through the windshields and into the hoods & sides of my vehicles. Granted city dwellers don't have these issues, but try living in the outskirts or in rural areas.

  9. How about we make our own animated film showing cute, singing animals over-breeding and dying of starvation, disease and being hit by cars? Then the hunters can step in to thin the herd and save the day. You could end it with a wise old buck stating that without predators, the herd outgrows it's food supply and the area which it must inhabit.

He could go on to explain that man does animals a kindness by acting as predator, since the natural predators that used to control the population no longer exist in sufficient numbers.

  10. Yes Produce, Direct, and Distribute Major Movies based on Hunting Wildlife in the Great Outdoors to Educate and Inform the General Public as to the Positive affects, and effects of the Important Role that Hunting plays in todays World.* A Documentary if you will covering all aspects of Hunting.* It could actually run as a series of Major Movies focusing on everything from Conservation, Economics, Hunting, Environment, Firearms and Ammunition, Hunter Safety, Land Management, Care and Cleaning of Game, Cooking, etc..*It would be an ever evolving Study of Hunting  and all that it encompasses in todays World.* The History of Hunting and Hunters.* Contact me if you agree, and would like to see it become a reality.*...

  11. I've never heard of such a thing.

The cure; go hunting and harvest a deer.

  12. You really can't blame it all on Bambi.

Disney has made hundreds of so-called "Nature films" that humanize various animals.  It is all anti-hunting propaganda.

Someone who's beloved pet has been killed and eaten by coyotes, or mountain lions, or whose child has been attacked will quit thinking that coyotes are just cuddly pups who have trouble scavenging food from trash cans, or that mountain lions are just overgrown tabbies.

Sadly, most people are so well insulated from wildlife that there is no cure.  And even more sadly there are some rural people who are in frequent, if not constant, contact with nature have fallen into that trap.

For example, the wife of a former co-worker tried to get her kids to "tell Daddy not to go out and shoot Bambi."  And that woman grew up in a rural area and Charles had been putting venison on the table for their entire married life!

Ignorance can be cured.  Willful stupidity cannot be cured.

Those who suffer the Bambi Syndrome through ignorance can be educated, but it is an uphill fight.  Thousands, if not hundreds of thousands oppose hunting because they don't realize that failure to control game populations will lead to starvation, and epidemics that will endanger all wildlife.

What we need are some movies aimed at kids that show hunting in a positive light.  Perhaps a movie about game wardens showing how lack of hunting to control game population leads to overpopulation.  Or about a rural family that makes their living with hunting and trapping, and how the younger members of the family go through a right of passage to become hunters, contributing to the family's food and income.  On the scarier side, there could be a movie or two about the mountain lion attacks on joggers and bicyclists in California and Colorado, point out that these attacks are increasing because the lack of hunting has removed the fear big cats had for men.  It would not hurt my feelings to see a movie about a a rogue maneater mountain lion..

The willfully stupid who know better but still embrace the Bambist point of view are hopeless.  The only thing I can think of that might change their minds would be spending a few hours up a tree trying to avoid a pack of coyotes, wolves, or feral dogs.  It is sort of like anti-gun Liberals who become staunch Second Amendment supporters after they get mugged.

    Doc

  13. When people accuse me of being "Bambi Killer"

    My Response

Go watch the movie again, Bambi was not shot by the hunter.

Other than that, I explain how I pity their meager city folk life and that I hope the whole foods store around the corner from them still has food next week.

The non hunters will become scavengers for our leftovers.

  14. Put a deer in the sufferers' garden.

    Instant cure.

  15. Take away the infected's food supply, give them a gun, drop them off in the forest, and tell them they can't come back without Bambi Burgers.

These bloody tree huggers drive me nuts. There are certain animals that need protected, sure, but there are some that need to be harvested to be protected. If deer overpopulate, all H*** breaks loose. I agree with James J, let's see how they react when Bambi starves to death.

  16. I guess grow up and get over it is what people need to do!*
