  1. My undergraduate degree is in Communications and my Masters degree is in Marketing Communications.

I currently work as a VP of Marketing in an investment bank in the UK.  However, several of my former classmates work in journalism, broadcasting and public relations - some have careers that have nothing to do with Communications at all.

My best advice is to try and get as much "work" experience while you are studying.  Internships, even unpaid ones will be very valuable and are critical to show employers that you understand what the working world is like and that you are mature enough to be professional.

Joining associations related to your chosen field is a great way to network and learn more about the industry.  Many associations have student chapters and the earlier you get involved the better!

Volunteer and get involved as much as possible - be proactive and seek out opportunities that will help get you in contact with people who are involved and working in your industry.  Get involved at your University too - whether it's the school paper, radio station - any club that will give you the opportunity to learn new skills and take on a leadership role.

This degree will be what you make of it.  Good luck!
