Do you have a good reason to reproduce? Details inside?

I just don't believe that most people think about the consequences of pro-creation. Without us, the world is much cleaner, nature works in sync with itself and senseless killing is almost completely unheard of.

I'm not asking about the ghetto mothers that have 8 children running around like animals, with 4 different fathers they don't know. That's just the animal nature that's a product of living in excess.

But I do believe that the more intelligent humans know, in the back of their heads, that pro-creation can not exist forever without a means of balance, and it's getting closer to a time when the people outnumber the resources. We just don't seem to have a solution, most people haven't even thought about it with any seriousness.

So what's your reason to reproduce?

I have to agree with you about the resources and that we have undoubtedly altered life on our planet with our existence and our hunting and gathering ways, which has ultimately led to global trade with China, and the word "extinct" becoming so widely used.  You are also most certainly correct in that most people - Okay, about 97.9% - don't think about the affects of adding new life to the planet, in the grand scheme of things.  It's the American way to procreate.  The Bible says to go forth and ... I forget, but I do know that it has to do with creating more humans.

Like the good doctor pointed out, and if you consider when he was young man, what he was exposed to was an environment where when we grew up, we got married, had kids, bought a house, the husband went to work, the wife stayed home, and we kids watched Kaptain Kangaroo.  I came from a large family and back then, making babies was, well... what men did.  Women were taught Home-Ec in schools and boys did shop.  This occurred throughout our country.  Kids meant future taxpayers.  Taxpayers keep the American machine rolling along.

Race and class are factors.  Consider those countries where it is more financially feasible to have a son, like in China.  A son can care for his parents - a daughter cannot.  

Over-population may one day reach the level of significance that global warming has.  However, be advised: this practice is already addressed in some parts of the world and not in a manner  that we in our country would find tasteful or even humane.  I do believe that we are going to realize, world-wide, that we must control our numbers.  I also realize that in doing so, there will be an uncomfortable adjustment period.  In the end, though, I hope we come to a rational approach to the over crowding situation that will work for everyone.

As to my reproducing?  I was buzzed, she wasn't supposed to be able to get pregnant, it felt good?

All of my children went to college, most of my grand children. Some followed me into the medical profession or the carpentry profession. All went into some trade and are doing well. Two are very wealthy, made it on their own.

   All my children are talented in some way and have contributed to their Country. We've all followed John Kennedy's rule "Ask not what your Country does for you but, what you can do for your Country"

   I have done two tours in 'Nam wounded twice, my father was in Normandy and Europe after that, wounded. All my uncles, cousins and nephews up to and including a grandson still in Iraq.

   I'm proud of my family.

I am allergic to children (the sound of babies crying makes me itch) and I agree with you. Therefore I will not reproduce. You have my vote!

There is no good reason at least for me. I am 27, with no kids ,and I plan on keeping it that way.

Unlike you (apparently) I consider the creation of a new human being a beautiful thing and I like the idea of my genes being passed on to future generations.

I think I will probably only have two children, though, to maintain replacement rate. But, of course, don't quote me on that cause I'm only 22 and have not met my spouse as yet.
