If so, which company did you choose? I've been debating taking advantage of Gerber's Grow Up Great plan . . . but I just can't decide.

  1. I went with Gerber.

  2. I have the Gerber's Grow Up Plan for my daughter. I got it within her first month of being born so that we could get the lowest premium (because the price never goes up). It's only $8.75 a month for $30,000 in coverage. When she turns 21, we'll take advantage of the "cash in" policy they have and let our daughter have the choice of continuing the coverage for herself or cashing out the policy.

  3. sure . we got one throught hubby s job and one trought mine . i recenlty quit but i still kept it . ours is the MN life insurance  and it is only $10.000 each so we might need to add more . maybe gerber , i ve received so many papers from them

  4. Its included with the health insurance coverage here at work.  Its only $10,000...So I might opt to get more outside of work.  $10,000 barely covers a funeral these days.

  5. I do not have insurance on my children.  I do have term policies for myself and my wife.

I always recommend that new parents make sure they have life insurance on themselves as the top priority since your kid will be much harder off financially if something happens to you versus the other way around. Your losses will be mostly emotional if your child dies since they don't work or create any income. If you still want to have some life insurance on your child most life insurance companies offer a child rider that you can tack on to your policy for a few bucks per month.

If you are just looking to save money for things like college then life insurance is not the most efficient way to do that since you have to pay for the death benefit coverage. You should look into a 529 college savings plan, Coverdell IRA, Roth IRA, and just your general family savings.

Gerber Life is a legitimate insurance company in case that is a concern.

  6. In my opinion, life insurance for a child is unecessary. A child does not have an income that would have to be replaced if he/she were to pass away. If you are trying to save for your child's future, there are better ways to do it.

  7. we have whole life insurance policies for our kids at 50,000 each. I think our policies are through mutual of omaha or something. Our financial advisor helped us set them up. Its really a good idea to get them for your kids. Gerber is a trusted source so go for it

  8. No, I do not.

  9. no i don't.  but i have 3 kids and can't really afford it.  if i were going to get it i would go with the gerber's cause they are the best for that age.  i did the research with my 1st and that's the one i would go with.
