I always thought you did and I have seen them with and without, I would really like to have it, because it is combining the two families. I do not like it when one side of the room is grooms family and the other is the brides. His parents are upset that I want a parent's table, my parent's are fine with it and like the idea. It is only for dinner than they can move and mingle, should I stick to what I really want?

  1. Go with what you want, after dinner his parents can go sit with whoever they want

  2. No you don't put yourself thru the headache of trying to come up with a parents table, i had a lovely wedding had the white dress, he had the tux, everybody sat were they wanted and when everybody went in to the reception area for food, they sat were they wanted and we ate,

why do some of you girls spend sooooo much time worried about the small stuff, when you should spend all your time worried about yourself and how you and your groom will look up there... focus on you guys people will understand

  3. Apart from one really small wedding, Every wedding I have been to has had a 'top table'.  This is where the bride, groom, bridesmaids, best man, the parents of the groom and the parents of the bride sit.  It is usually a long table, then all the other tables are usually round.

  4. I didn't have a "parents table" but I had 2 tables set aside one for my mom and whomever she wanted to sit with her and his dad and his friends they were next to eachother.  I don't believe in seating arrangements

  5. I think you should respect the wishes of his parents.  They are a bit uncomfortable with it and they prefer the traditional way.  It's such small request on their part, I don't see why you can't honor it.  I understand you "want it", but you need to be understanding of your in-laws.  Let them win this one!

  6. I am genuinely confused by this question. Surely you combine the families and friends by way of the table plans & place cards? and won't both of your sets of parents be on your table with the best man and the bridesmaids?

  7. I think you already answered your own question. If thats what you want to do then by all means do it. I think either way is fine.

  8. It's only for dinner. I think it's nice to put both families together.

It's your wedding- they will get over it.

  9. just have open seating and let people work it out before you even enter the reception!  you'll be having photos taken after the ceremony and smooching your new husband, and the rest of your family can work out where they want to sit for the reception, the heck with them

  10. Of course you can have a parent's table, but it's not necessary.

That said, I don't think it's really fair to make anyone sit somewhere they don't really want to because it's what you "really want." Sure it's only for dinner, but don't you want your in-laws to enjoy themselves?

  11. To be honest it is your choice what you want not what others have did or what you have saw in the wedding both parties have the families together so that they can mingle with each other and just to know one another more. I hope you go for what you want this is your day and you and your families and friends are there for you to enjoy this beautiful day!

  12. We are not having a parents table because his father is no longer with us and my mum recently passed, we think it would just be a little too weird.

We plan on allowing everyone to sit where they want. We have a sweetheart table for the "head table", but that's about it.

  13. I would have two tables, one for each group. And I would ask who they want at the table with them. It is only for the meal, after that we hope they would be up and mingling.

My friend's daughter just got married, and she put everyone together at one table: her Mom, her x-husband and his wife, the grooms parents, and 2 close friends that played family for the occasion. Everyone ate, and were polite.
