  1. Yes, you need a passport.

  2. if you are an americian citizen you do not need a passport to enter either country until next summer (June 2009)

As of now you need a photo id (drivers license) and a birth certificate. I know this because my husband is a commercial driver and I travel with him.

We also travel to Eastport Maine in the summer.

  3. No you don't, you need a Valid Government Picture ID and a birth certificate or citizenship papers.  you also need to check and make sure your insurance will be valid on both sides of the border.  Some it is while other's it isn't.

  4. They would like a passport. They will settle for picture ID and a birth certificate.......No problem going into Canada, it's the US that will hassle you coming back.

I live on the border and go over constantly. At LEAST have picture ID and Birth certificate.  A passport will make your trip even easier if you have time to get one.

  5. you need a passport if traveling by air and government issued id as well as photo id if by land

  6. Nope you don't. Just went through this about a week ago. I crossed into Canada (moving from Illinois to Alaska) and got back into the U.S. without one. Trust me you don't need one. I would suggest getting Canadian Non-Resident insurance card though. It's free from you insurance company and it's a nice thing to have while you're there. Here's a number to call if you want to hear it for yourself that you DON'T need one..1-877-227-5511.

  7. absolutely!

    don't leave home without it.

    it is the law.

the days of using driver's licence are long gone since 9-11.
