Question:

Do you have a regular DVD player/recorder or a Blue Ray?

Noticed that they are coming out with the Blue Ray DVD players and recorders now. They are very expensive too.

I own a lot of DVD movies and I am happy with my plain old DVD player and recorder. They work fine and the Blue Rays are not only expensive, but to me a waste of time. What am I suppose to do, throw out all my DVD movies because they are a different format? Preposterous!

Was wondering how many people out there have a regular DVD player and/or recorder like me and are not interested in Blue Ray???

  1. You just noticed blu ray players?

wrt to being "expensive" so were DVD players when they were introduced to the market.  (and $28 a disc?  that's nutty to buy a movie.)

if you're happy with your DVD player, fine.  I have a blu ray player by virtue of a PS3.  Own exactly 1 BR movie (received as a gift), but I still buy DVDs (used) since the PS3 will upscale to 1080p.

I'm not interested in BR movies at $28 a pop.  Perhaps when new discs are half that brand new & cheaper still when used, I'll consider buying BR movies.

  2. i have one

    my PS3 :D

    it plays DVDs and Blu-Ray

and is cheaper than Blu-ray players

  3. I assume you mean standalone players:

    I have 3 (all I need)

Philips DVD-300 (or some model like that)

    Sony PS3 (for BD)

    Toshiba EP-10 (HD DVD)

Setup works fine as I use my Toshy to upscale region 4 DVD's and I use the PS3 to upscale region 1 DVD's.

I agree with you about throwing out your old dvds. Not worth it imho. What you can do is, buy your new films on BD instead of replacing your old ones.

Movie studios love to double dip. They obviously want you to rebuy it so that they can reap more profits. BD's aren't that expensive anymore, around 25USD or less thesedays if you go looking. Considering its 40AUD in Aus, I think 25USD is a bargin.

Yeah don't rebuy it on BD (unless you really like the film). I know someone who told me to replace all my HD DVD's with BD's. So stupid. If the disc works fine and you're content, why bother?

  4. I play my DVDs through my portable DVD player and my computer. I agree Blu ray is just another way to get YOUR money. Rip off
