Do you have a *simple* way to secure books on a shelf?

I'm not talking about baby-safing a bookshelf.

The bookcase has two shelves, right in the "toddler zone". Right now, I've stuffed one more book than will allow easy removal of books, for the purpose of preventing baby (15-mos) from taking out Mom's and Dad's books.

Do you have a way to secure books without stuffing that extra book? A nylon strap? Boxes?

What worked/is working for you?

  1. We have a similar problem, in that the books on the bookshelf, and some games, are age appropriate for an older sibling.  We tell the younger one a forceful "NO!". and it seems to work for us.  If he persists, then we remove him to another area, and distract him for a few moments.

  2. Simple, let baby know that those books on the bookshelve can't be touched. Persistance is the key.

  3. We had a similair problem with DVD's, my DH is a collector and we had them all in teh entertainemnt center, at child level.  We did stuff the extra one in there to make it difficult to pull out but try "STOP" instead of no, then hug and praise for lstening. This is more effective than NO!  Your child will eventually learn that this is not his to touch.  Be consistent.
