Question:

Do you have an HDMI receiver suggestion for me?

i'm looking into getting an HDMI receiver, and i need some help. What i want is a single HDMI output. I want any input (hdmi, component, etc.) to be output through hdmi (both audio and video). the goal being that i have a single hdmi out to my HD tv, with all audio going through the receiver.

i know that hdmi passthrough will not work, as it will only pass hdmi in signals to the hdmi out.

so, the basic question is, what receivers out there upgrade other video signals to hdmi?

any help would be appreciated.

  1. A receiver that I think works really well for that basic function is the Denon AVR-2308

    http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3631...

It will not only take your other connections and push them through the HDMI output, it will also upconvert the signal using a video processor.

Upconvert meaning it will increase the resolution of your standard resolution signals.

  2. Any Yamaha from the comparibly priced RX-V1700 and above will do all this as well as the Denon.

I prefer having the larger array of options that tends to come with Yamaha for set-up and room calibration but the Denon product is first rate also. I would include Pioneer Elite (VSX-X92TXH minimum) in my short list, and that'd be about it.

Upconversion does NOT give you a better picture. It just sends whatever picture information you input via composite, svideo, etc. up a 1080 highway by rescaling.

  3. the hdtv guy is correct, i woudl go with a yamaha 1700 to above, the 2700, or 3800 model are very good, also the pioneer elite reciever, the 92 model or highier, howver they were have problems with the video output on them i think it is resolved now, these are the 2 over best brands in my opinion, for quality and ease for set up or reassignment
