Question:

Do you have an electric pencil sharpener in your classroom that has lasted for a long time?

I have gone through so many pencil sharpeners over the past 10 years! I buy the heavy duty classroom use sharpeners, and they always are broken within 1 or 2 years. The warranties are only "limited warranties" which don't cover all problems. Can anyone recommend a great sharpener that lasts for a long time?

  1. I wish I knew of one. I have the same problem in my own classroom.  We have an electric one but I"m not sure what the brand is... we've had it for about 2 years now and its just about done too.  They don't make the manual wall ones as good as they used to as they tend to break after the first 3 months or so...you could buy the cheap dollar store ones and have them at the corner of your desk... I've done that for a year.  It isn't the greatest and they usually need to be replaced at the end of the semester but it is only about $5 total rather than a larger costing electric one.  I wish I knew of something better to help you with, although I totally understand your frustration!

  3. I don't think there's such a thing as a long lasting electric pencil sharpener. I gave up and went back to the manual ones. Even those aren't made the way they used to be.

I have an old metal hand crank one (don't know what kind of metal) that I've been using since I got out of college in 1972. It just keeps going, and going, and going.

  4. Tell your kids to buy their own sharpeners, because electric sharpeners are the most annoying things ever.
