  1. We're from Ireland. My uncle is a country singer in Australia.

We moved to america so I could better my wrestling career.

We do have a family business, a winery.

  2. I think my family has an interesting background. My grandma is from Northern Italy and is believed to have royal ancestors. My grandpa is distantly related to Joe DiMaggio, a former Yankees center fielder.

  3. My 5xgreat-grandfather on my mother's side was a Lowland Scot who was Colonel of a regiment (English side) which fought in the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745.  He was killed with a Highlander's great axe when rallying his troops, and in fact you can read about him in Sir Walter Scott's novel "Ivanhoe".  He was famous for being very religious, singing hymns when on horseback, forbidding his men to swear, etc.  But he only got that way when he had a vision as a younger man, when awaiting one of many "assignations" with a woman in France, which convinced him that Jesus had died for him and he was not to continue hurting Jesus in his life of a "rake" in aristocratic circles.

As for a family business, on my father's side there were many generations who made cricket bats and other sporting equipment.  If they didn't make bats, they were always doing woodworking of some kind.

  4. Kind Edward I and William the Conqueror are both ancestors of mine. Of course, I was descended from the illegitimate children of their mistresses so it may not count for much.

Cardinal Wolsey who was the cardinal that dried to get the Vatican to grant a divorce for King Henry the 8th is another interesting ancestor of mine.

  5. Yep.

    All over.

    Yep.

    Yep.

(Sorry about that; I get carried away.

My Mom's grandfather died in Andersonville...

My ancestors came over on the Mayflower, founded Germanna, Virginia, Germantown, Pennsylvania...

I am descended from the same Welshman who is an ancestor the the current line of Royalty in England, Charlemagne, some of the Caesars...

As to business, one died at sea on his ship in the 1600s; a g-g-g-g-g grandmother was burned at the stake as a witch...

One was living in England, a descendant of Frenchmen, died in the battle of Orleans in France (fighting against Joan d'Arc...Sailors, soldiers, statemen, Bishops, Kings, Queens, farmers, carpenters, you name it.

In otherwords, I have found a few more ancestors that most people; by the time you go back a mere 1,600 years, we all have common ancestors!

  6. It's interesting to me, but not terrible interesting overall.  I've heard that some of my ancestors had a castle in Ireland, though I'm not sure I believe it.  One was in the War of 1812, one in the Civil War, one in WWI, and one in WWII.  My brothers and I fortunately broke the chain of military service. (I say fortunately not because I don't respect the military, but because I'm glad none of us are in harm's way!)

  7. Im related to Jesse James, Bill monroe the bluegrass singer, and Merle Haggard all three from my mom's side

  8. My mom's line is related to Abe Lincoln.  His grandmother is my gg+ grandmother (we're 2nd cousin 5X removed).  OTOH, my family also has horse thieves, army deserters and bigamists too.  lol

  9. I have heard some stories about mine, some true, some not true, some still up in the air....here are some of the true ones:

I am a direct relative of some of the very first Viking's that came to America, long before the "true" discovery of America.  This is on my fathers side.

I have at least 2 known pirates in my mother's lineage.

My great-great grandmother was friends with Rosa Parks, the African American historical figure that would not yield her seat on a city bus.  (I am Caucasian)

Unsubstantiated story but believed to be true:

My great grandfather lost the family fortune on a poker game.  The largest mansion in the small town I am originally from is the man's family of the guy that won that poker game.

Oh, I am a great American Heinz 57 - My fathers family is all Norwegian (thus the viking part) and my mothers family is everything else - Italian, Irish, French, Norwegian, American Indian - both Choctaw and Cree.

One other cool thing I know about my families past......thanks to a 5-minute delay of his platoon, they arrived at the airbase in 1972-74? and missed the plane taking them to Vietnam...thier orders were changed and they were sent on the next plane to peace time Korea...missing the Vietnam War - when my dad got back he met my mom and history was made....hee hee - if it weren't for that 5 mins, he could have been in the middle of a war and never made it back!

  10. Do you know who John Winthrop was?  -- 1st Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, arrived there aboard the ship Arabella in the year 1630. My ancestor was his secretary.

During the Revolution, the British wanted to capture Gen. George Washington in order to end the war quickly.  Therefore, he had bodyguards.  During the infamous winter at Valley Forge one of my ancestors was one of his bodyguards.

I think everyone yes everyone has an interesting history. Some people have difficulty finding information for a variety of reasons and others have chosen not to look.  Both are a shame.

My ancestors came from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. That last was very surprising since none of the family names in recent generations are Dutch.  My mother's family has lived on the same mountain for over 200 years. Both of my parents were born and are buried in the same very small town. All 4 of my grandparents were born in that same county.  All 8 of my great-grandparents were born either in that county or one next to it.  All 16 of my great great grandparents were born in that state.  Now if only I could revive a few dead ancestors to ask certain questions.

I knew two elderly sisters who were 2nd cousins to each other in addition to being sisters and were related to me in 5 different ways. Not that unusual where I'm from and my mother was my 3rd  cousin.

  11. yeah, i'm related to your mommy.

  12. Yes to both questions. My maternal grandfather had researched his family back as many generations as possible. His grandfather had been a Squire, this he already knew but wanted to learn how and why the title was bestowed on the family. Apparently, the ancestor who was the first Squire was the "natural child" (born on the wrong side of the blanket) of Edward IV of England. The title was tied to a parcel of land and the last Squire lost the land and the title. Also, in that side of the family they had a very prosperous steel business until WWII.

My father's family had an oral tradition about their ancestors that was passed down for generations.  Apparently, our ancestor was a relative of King Louis XV of France. That ancestor, Prince Louis Phillipe moved his family to New Orleans. They were a rich family that had numerous children. A daughter, Princess Louisa defied her family and ran off with a lowly horse trader and moved to Texas. Louisa had 16 children, 8 boys and 8 girls. All the boys did not survive to adulthood and the eldest daughter was my father's great-grandmother. So that means we have interesting ancestors in the background but it doesn't mean anything today, just history to pass on to the future generations.

  13. I have obscure family lines, and lines important and written about in history books, and lines of which I must still explore.

After a short time, I found they are all compelling people, and all have been worth the research. And I wouldn't exist if even the most uninteresting one had failed to show up one stormy night to conceive a specific child.

  14. My Grandmother was from Dublin Ireland and my Grandfather was from England. My mom and dad were born here though So and English and Irish mix in the Collins last name which is my last name of course.

  15. My grandpa is Portuguese and Hawaiian. His grandma was friends with the last queen of Hawaii and there is a family history of hawaiian priests and priestesses or something AND sopposedly we are related to royalty way back. This all came from my grandpa, the priest part I believe is true and so is the friends with the last queen part because everyone knew my family when they were in Hawaii.....

Portuguese side: they came to hawaii, that's all I know.

My great grandpa was filipino and chinese and his wife was Mexican. Both Bisayan and Spanish were spoken at my grandma's house when she was young and she has a BIG family.

I also supposedly have Irish nobility.

My other grandpa's grandpa was in the IRA when he was in Ireland. =D

My mom's mom has Native American in her, enough to get money from the casinos.

I guess it's not that interesting but because I have sooooo many races and I don't look like I'm one or the other, I get a really long birth name and people wondering what exactly am I.

  16. I helped both of my grandmothers do the geneology from our families.

My fathers side is related to Ulysses S. Grant.  I have the documentation with pictures and all.
