  1. Haven't stayed at the Four Seasons but understand it is definitely upscale and exclusive.....probably the "nicest" hotel in the area.  (Not a place to mingle amongst the locals, who are truly wonderful people)  I've not heard that it's overrun with children - I would guess that many families may not be able to afford the rates.

The resort is in an area with a lot of new development, which - in my opinion - lacks the charm of Mexico.  Quite a long way from the action, restaurants, charm of old PV.  If you are comfortable driving in Mexico (it's pretty crazy!!!), definitely rent a car.

Destiladeras beach is not far away - it's a beautiful long stretch of swimmable beach, with a restaurant.  You drive past it on the way out to Punta Mita.  Many local families enjoy it on weekends and holidays.  Great place to walk.

North of the Bay are towns of Sayulita (surfer town, many young "free-spirited" people - good restaurants) and San Francisco which is much quieter than Sayulita.  The beaches are not as swimmable, but good for boogie boarding and surfing.  The sand is beautiful, but quite coarse, so kind of hard on the feet.

South, toward Nuevo Vallarta, is the town of Bucerias - a long beach, plenty of beach restaurants, shops, services.  It has been our favorite for many years, but seems to be "merging" with Nuevo Vallarta to the south, which - like Punta Mita - is over-developing and, again my opinion, lacks the "feel" of being in Mexico.

    Hope you enjoy your stay.

  2. Four seasons is really far from Vallarta, at least one hour drive from the Malecon. You should rent a car so you can explore around.  There are other very nice beaches in the area. Depending on what you are into.  You should visit a store called "No name boutique" they have really nice women's bathing suits, bags, clothing, also mens, and the only store in PV area that does not see fake Cuban cigars.  I got my girl friend very nice jewelery there. They also have 4 stores.

  3. Punta de Mita is a white sand beach. Four Seasons is an exclusive hotel. If you want to know Vallarta it is 30 minutes away, and there are thousands of places to go. No it is not overrun by children, however if you stay in the hotel you will probably encounter a lot of them at the pool.

I recommend you to take a boat to the waterfalls, swim with dolphins, go to the town of Puerto Vallarta and shop, walk around. it is a very nice place.
