Hi, I am looking for a rewarding community service opportunity where I can help out in places in relations with medical opportunities.

Basically, I want to work my community service hours at a hospital that will be constructive for my college application.

I live in 94588 which is Pleasanton, CA. If you have any other recommendations for my community service hours, feel free to list them for me.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Type your area code or city name into any of these web sites to find nonprofit organizations that provide medical services:

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site, http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

If you want to be a volunteer to help regarding medical emergencies that happen with the consequences of a natural disaster, such as Hurricane Katrina, here's a web site where you can register and start your preparation so that you can help the next time disaster strikes:

    http://www.helpindisaster.org/

  2. Go to a place in your community that houses children with diabilities. There are some kids there that would love to be read to but cannot ask or even pick up a book. You should see their eyes when you start in. i work at Childserve and my daughter volinteers to read. these kids live there and or are waiting for a bed at a group home or other facility. You can really tell  the difference in the kids. They just light up when they see her because they know that she will be there talking and showing pictures. sometimes just the soumd of a calm voice reasures the children that they are not all alone in that cold room.
