  1. There are lots of choices, but I can recommend the following brands for good to excellent sound, plus they are often available at major electronic outlets like Best Buy:

Altec Lancing, Cambridge Soundworks (mail order), B&O, Bose, Klipsch, JBL and Harmon Kardon.

In light of the generous 7.1 channels you have, you may need to buy more than one set. Here is a list of the speakers you'll need:

    Front: Left, Center, Right, Subwoofer

    Center: Left, Right

    Rear: Left, Right

The subwoofer is the decimal (.1).

I strongly recommend that you get a demo of the speakers you like before making a purchase. Here are a few shopping tips from my favorite mag, Sound & Vision:

One last thing- remember to set aside plenty of time to set the whole thing up. Don't spend too much $$, as the quality of sound from a computer may not be equal to that of a stand-alone HiFi (unbalanced low voltage wiring is often susceptible to interference). Good luck!

  2. Logitech make some good computer speakers. No need for 7.1 unless you have the room to mount 4 rear speakers.

Stick with a 5.1 setup unless this is your main home theater setup. Then I suggest maybe moving away from a PC setup to a real home theater setup.

    Good luck
