  2. Hello,

Eudoxia was a daughter of Theodosius II, Eastern Roman Emperor and his consort Aelia Eudocia. Her only known siblings, Arcadius and Flacilla, predeceased their parents. [1] [2] Their paternal grandparents were Arcadius and Aelia Eudoxia. Their maternal grandfather was Leontius, a sophist from Athens.

All of the above information can be found on the link I have provided.

I also know that the coin, depending on its condition, will sell for about £25.00 at auction.

I hope this has been helpful.

    :O)

  3. Well, first I should point out that there several Roman Empresses named Eudoxia. I believe only two of them would appear on Roman currency: Aelia Eudoxia and Licinia Eudoxia. If I could see the coin I could probably tell you which  it is, and if you want to post an image under Additional Info, I'll edit this description and tell you which, but for now I'll describe both.

    - Aelia Eudoxia (d. 404 AD): Aelia was the daughter of a Frankish general Bauto. As a Frank, Bauto was from northern Germany and is an ancestor of the modern French (the Franks overran Roman Gaul, creating France). He sent her to be educated in Constantinople, where she received a classical education. At some point she moved into the Imperial palace, and Arcadius, the future Emperor, noticed her there. Aelia was supposedly very beautiful, and though one of the Imperial ministers tried to get Arcadius to marry his daughter, Arcadius married Aelia.

She only survived around nine years as Empress, but she accomplished much. She had seven children, including future Emperor Theodosius II. She achieved enormous power, especially since Emperor Arcadius was a weak ruler, so she made many of the decisions. When Gothic mercenaries working for the Empire revolted and tried to seize Constantinople, she led the people in rising up against them and driving them out. She also founded many churches throughout the Empire

    - Licinia Eudoxia (422-462 AD): She was the daughter of Theodosius II (Aelia Eudoxia's son) and Aelia Eudocia (not Eudoxia, kind of confusing). She was born in Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Empire, and was married to the Emperor of the Western Empire, Valentinian III. But when Valentinian III was assassinated, and because they had no children, Licinia was the only leader of the West left, so any who married her would become Emperor. The man who married her was Patronius Maximus, who she disliked, but he told her that she had to marry him or he would kill her. She married him, and they had two daughters, but she sent out messages to Vandals (a barbarian tribe attacking the Empire) to rescue her. They did, attacking and sacking Rome. In the confusion of violence and pillaging, her husband was killed. Licinia was carried off to the Vandal capital in Africa along with her two daughters. The Vandals held them prisoner for a few years but eventually let them go. She returned to Constantinople where she lived the rest of her life, but one of her daughters married the Vandal king.
