  1. One of my distant cousins was Francis Rawn Shunk, who was the governor of Pennsylvania.  I am also related to Herman Miller of the Herman Miller Comany. (www.hermanmiller.com)  and his son Howard Miller of the Howard Miller Clock Company.  Herman and Howard were father and son. Both companies are out of Zeeland, Michigan.

  2. You're in good shape, genealogically speaking. They were very important, and were written about.

Mine just dumped tea overboard and argued against the War of 1812 in the House. Founded a few towns on the way across the country.

Well known famous people are no more important than our obscure ancestors, but they're easier to research.

My mother grew up during WWII in Vallejo, and had a lot of fond memories of that town. Maybe you can call your Vallejo ancestor back from the grave and have him kick some butt in the city council to straighten up their town's finances...

Have fun and via con Dios...

  3. We ALL have famous relatives.  If you trace all your ancestors brothers and sisters, and those peoples kids, etc., you will find someone famous.  That is hardly anything exciting.  What is exciting is if one of your famous relatives is actually a direct ancestor of yours, not a distant cousin.  Then you can say that you have their genes; that they are your great-grandparent; that you owe your existance to them.  That is way more important and exciting than someone being your 4th cousin 8x removed.  If you go back far enough, we are ALL cousins.

  4. I'm distantly related to Mario Lanza who is an Italian singer.

  5. My Granddad and Ringo Starr are cousins!!!

  6. one ancester was Myles Standish of the Mayflower

  7. I am a descendant of Mary Queen of Scots and my boyfriend's ancestors commissioned the painting of "The Last Supper"

  8. My dad's dad is a famous singer from Mexico and his name is Charles Alvarez. Does that count?

  9. In our family tree, we have Rush Limbaugh, President Herbert Hoover's great-great grandmother, George Calvert Yount (planted the 1st grapevine in NAPA valley), and Harry Yount (first Yellowstone Park Ranger).

  10. Ned Kelly is on my grandfathers side.............

Sometimes think there's a bit of Ned in all of us.............

  11. Adam and Eve, Noah?

Just kidding,  the only one I know of is 'Texas' John Slaughter, but he is probably only known in Texas.
