Question:

Do you have any good study techniques?

Ok, my only issue with studying is determining what's important. I am pretty smart but have a learning disability. One thing I can do is if I read something X amount of times, I will remember it (I can remember everything from the text).

So, I have to cut down the amount of information from the text. How do you determine what to take notes on or highlight? Do you just go by feel or what? I have looked up some things on this but all seem like they would not work for me. I know a lot of times in text books they show examples after introducing the topic..so I have a little idea of what to highlight but am scared I would not highlight enough info.

  1. I would definitely check if the university/ school you attend have a course in learning how to "read smart". I took one and I now have a better study technique than I used to.

The problem with highlighting is that it's easy to over-do it. In that course I took, I learned that the first thing to do, is to figure out the goal for that section/ chapter you're reading.

What do you need to know after reading this, what's the essence of this chapter and so on.

Try to do research on the material you are reading, maybe you'll find additional information through another source. The important thing isn't knowing every word you read, but find out what the text really is about.

I found this site useful: http://www.studygs.net/

    Good luck!

  2. One technique is to skim your reading before class and then read it again after class.  After hearing your teacher talk about it, you will know what is important.  Also, read other websites/articles on the subject.  If you find repetition, then it's important.

  3. im kind of the same way. im a pretty fast typer, so if you type out all the important things you can make some killer study notes.

thats what i do and it helps alot.

    good luck !
