  1. It really depends on the Institute you are teaching at I think, or if you are doing private lessons.  Private lessons can fetch up to like W50,000 an hour.  Language Institutes depends on location, but I have heard you can make W30,000 - W40,000 per class (45 minutes) in the cities, less in rural towns.

  2. I am an English native speaker and have taught English in various capacities to Korean students since 1996.  The fees over the years have gradually gone up, but currently differ from one Province to the next.  Higher fees can be expected if you cater to professionals, such as businessmen, doctors, lawyers, etc.  Hagwans, or Language Institutes pay well, but they also pay the least.  You can expect about W30,000 an hour for a class in a Hagwan in any decent sized city such as Daegu or Busan.  Seoul, possibly a bit more.  Private tutoring can fetch upwards to W50,000 per hour, more if you teach multiple students at the same time.  Staying private is your best bet, but not always easy unless you have good contacts.

I also know a Filipina that teaches via telephone and some in residence students as well.  She begins around 7:00 AM and literally goes until Midnight, with a few breaks in between.  She works for someone, so not as well compensated, but still paid handsomely.  She hasn't given me exact figures.

Teaching for actual schools (elementary, middle, high school), in my opinion, pay the very least, as they are typically dependent on outside funding.  Go private, go private, go private.
