There are two ways for the US Constitution to be amended:

1) An amendment must get the support of 2/3 of the members of each house of Congress then the support of 3/4 of the state legislatures. This is the method that has been used to pass every amendment so far.

2) 2/3 of the states can propose a constitutional convention. This method has never been used under our current Constitution dating back to 1787.
