Question:

Do you have any ideas for my 14th birthday party?

I'm on a pretty tight budget with about $150 and I don't really want to spend it all. My options are Bowling, Roller Blading [did it for my 12th b-day], dinner [expensive], or having one at home.

So what does a painless fun party need to be successful?

I can have up to 20 people at my party and I have limited space available.

P.S. My birthday is on September 8th. 2 days after school starts so it has to be on a weekend.

  1. get one of those slide jumpees. put water on the slide...and you can knock each other down and stuff,. i do this with my friends all the time and it never gets old. then you could like, have a sleepover...stay up all night...buy alot of snacks, dance, prank call/......hgahah JUST HAVE FUN.

  2. Cake, balloons, lot of booze.

  3. Youre probably going to respond with, "uhhh like omg no." with this one... but Im just going to throw it out there...

How about ... instead of spending tons of money on another party filled with overly cute paper napkins, tablecloth, and cake that probably could have tasted a little better without the red frosting, --How about gathering your friends up and volunteering at a local shelter. Tell your friends that this is something that means a lot more to you and your community. More than just cards and gifts and ...gift cards.

Take 4 or 5 hours of your day and offer your hands at the soup kitchen. Or if you, like most 14 year olds, are too high in the clouds and 'above' that, perhaps your friends and yourself could offer help at a vet hospital or the pound/animal shelter. Just walk in and tell them that instead of a regular birthday party, you would like to volunteer your friends and yourself to come in one morning or afternoon and walk the dogs, bathe them, and maybe instead of your friends bringing you gifts, they can go out and purchase nice pretty collars or treats for these animals (which maybe would make them look a little cuter for adoption?).

I dunno.... Like I said, youre probably thinking like any other kids would like in this day in age.

But really, its one birthday. And Im telling you, by the time you get out of your teens.... birthdays are just birthdays.. and you rarely get a party. Why not do something good for others or give your time?

Your friends will certainly be proud of you, as well as your parents Im sure. It will be memorable. And I risk telling you this huge secret, but, Once you lend a helping hand, its addicting. You will want to help others... And I think its wise to spread this contagious addiction.

Besides... this costs NOTHING but your time and willingness. (With the exception of maybe your friends pitching in for animal treats and collars).

  4. I would have it at home. You could maybe choose less people and have a girls sleepover. It would be cheaper, you could rent movies, play games, eat junk have cake, take pictures! It would be more fun and intimate and then it would be in your budget and be something fun and different. Use some money to decorate the room you will be sleeping in!
