Do you have any insight on Ajantha Mendis?

Hi I am Dhoni. Myself and the guys, we have been training hard for the finals against Sri Lanka. It is good that we had a couple of days break since we are all quite tired.

One guy we need to look out for is Ajantha Mendis who everyone calls a mystery spinner. We have been watching his videos and he bowls leg spin, off spin, the doosra and the googly. Countering him is what we are trying to work on.

What is your view on Ajantha Mendis and how to tackle him?

I also promise that I will try hard and we will try to win the finals.

watch the ball from his release, dont play any predetermined shots. sweep and scoop against mendis

Md USuF couldn't tackle him,..so  i don't really think,...you as a relatively new cricketer to tackle such a amazingly versatile

23 Year old Ajantha Mendis is an unknown commodity so far having played just 7 matches but he is having a dream tournament now in the Asia cup. In his career of just 7 matches, he has taken 14 wickets, a wicket every 20.5 balls conceding just 13.71 runs. The all-time greatest ODI bowler Shane bond has taken 1.89 wickets per match and Ajantha Mendis has so far taken 2 wickets per match, indicating how good he is. Even though many of his wickets have come against UAE, his scalps include Chris Gayle, Mohd. Yousuf, Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq. Against India he is yet to play.

Classified as a right-arm, slow-medium bowler, Ajantha Mendis is a spinner who bowls a mixture of googlies, offbreaks, top-spinners, flippers and legbreaks. Ajantha's deliveries can fox the best of the batsmen as they are as unpredictable as those of Murali. Murali and Ajantha are the deadliest duo working in tandem now and it is not going to be easy for India to win the match. Taking batting first will be a good option as chasing against this duo is going to be well-nigh impossible. To play against this duo, one has got to be quick on one's feet and practcally be able to dance on the pitch. Going forward and hitting the ball before it starts turning is a good option but then you got to watch for the variation that can get you stumped.
