I have never had such a hard time getting hired. I keep wondering what I am doing wrong. Anyone have any pointers that I might not have thought about?

  1. I have a hard time in interviews as well. I find if you do you research (on the company, what they want in an employer) you feel more confident going into an interview.  I know I need to relax more. i get so nervous I get flustered. Writing down questions you want to know about the job and taking that with you is a good idea- just make sure you are listening to make sure they havent already told you the answer to your questions.

Relaxed and confident is the way to be

  2. It's not necessarily your fault, especially now!

Now being the economic downswing the US and in turn several other countries are going through.

Simply- the interest rates are higher cause of inflation. Everything is more expensive, including what a business has to pay for to keep itself running. Right now, a lot of businesses have to fire people because they can't afford to keep them.

Take the hairdressing salon example my teacher gave us in class today. You're the manager, and you have 6 people working for you. people are pocketing their money due to expectations of the future, oil prices, the soon to be introduced carbon emmissions tax, food prices... (Yeah, oil affecst every single thing in the economy anyway) so a lot of business are experiencing a fall in demand from their consumers. The manager of the hairdresser might have to fire someone cause they cant afford to employ anyone. They can lower their pricesm but they do whatever they think saves them the most money. This may not be the situation with all businesses, but right now its so hard to get hired by anyone!

I'm having a hard time getting hired too.

While you're hanging in there for a job, why not do things that you could put on your resume...

Volunteer work, or school or college groups you can join, like debating or maybe a sports team. Anything to make you seem as unlazy as possible! (Not saying you are, just going by what employers like to see!)

my friend took a 2 Day First Aid Course at her college a month ago, that looks fantastic on a resume, why not sign up for that?

    And some interview tips!

Smile, chat to the staff beforehand, be friendly, ask questions, especially about how they do things, ask something about customer service... lots of questions, those are good. And if it's a store with a loyalty card, get their loyalty card! I know they like it when you seem like you go there a lot.

And remember to give good answers that emphasize your non laziness, team work ability, communication skills and people personess.

    Hope I helped.

  3. don't fiddle, or mumble, and making eye contact is very important. bring along your resume, and be honest when answering questions. oh and also dress to impress. when i went to my first interview i wore black work pants, and a white button down shirt. also avoid going over the top with makeup/jewellery/perfume. be polite and friendly, and good luck!

  4. if there is a chair far away from the people asking the questions, ask if you can sit then MOVE THE CHAIR FORWARDS. It is a test of your assertiveness. Don't fidget. When they ask you about plans and time control, say that you will always leave some CONTINGENCY TIME if things do not always go to plan.

  5. Sit up straight- don't slouch

    Smile

    firm handshake

    ASK questions!!

Try to infuse a bit of humor (yes, they want a serious, hard working individual, but you will also stand out from the crowd if you make them laugh or make them smile.

Don't be modest. An interview is NOT the place to downplay your talents!

    Good Luck!!!!

  6. Go in cofident and shake all the panels hands and make eye contact when talking.

Make sure you go in well prepared to answer questions and that you dont mumble speak clearly this makes you look like you know what you are talking about.

    Good Luck.

  7. -Try and act confident.

-Research on the job so you get a clear idea on it so if your interviewer asks you questions which refers to the job then you'll know what to say.

    -Don't slouch

-Show you're interested by your facial expressions

    -Ask questions

-Don't ask how much money you will get paid

    -Don't say 'errm'

    Hope that helps :)

  8. Be yourself.

You most likely aren't doing anything wrong.

The economy and the job market is in a terrible decline due to our gov's disastrous performance in the last 8 years.

Be patient, it's going to get better soon.

    Regards.

  9. Maybe dont try so hard, try to act relaxed and comfortable in the interviewers presence. Act confident and try not to be robotic, try to give them some part of your personality, but dont overwhelm them.

    Wow, that sounds hard...lol

  10. it's so natural and it happens with everyone, just keep on applying and believe me one of these days you will be hired, just be confident with your interviews and show the interviewer that you're perfect for that job and be patient too.

  11. Well, I can't tell you what you've not thought about as I don't know what you HAVE thought about. However, I do know of a few interview tips...

    - As much as the employer wants to hear you speak about your achievements, goals and work experience, don't ramble and get to the point.

    - Be prepared for the unexpected. I don't just plan for the standard interview questions but for the ones that you wouldn't be expecting, as they're the ones they'll most likely ask.

    - Don't fill up your resume with boring little details and figures. If you want to explain your employment history and academic achievements, then great, but go by the saying "quality NOT quantity" and only write what's necessary.

    - Listen to what the employer says and don't interrupt them. You can ask questions when they ask you if you've got any questions.

    - Depending on what job your going for, dress for the occassion. If you have many body piercings then take most of them out (unless yout trying to get a job as a piercer) apart from a few in your ears. Don't wear lots and lots of make-up. You want to look professional but hard working, not off a magazine cover.

    - Just be yourself. Don't act all serious just because it's an interview but then again, try not to act like a complete moron either lol. Employers want to get to know potential employees personalities and coming across as fake or stuck-up is not what you want.

    - Be on time! If you are going to be late, then ring and say that you'll be late. However, it's preferable that your not late at all. If you can, then show up 10 minutes early to show that your eager to start work.

That's all I know about interviews. I found a website which might offer you more advice http://www.momentum.co.nz/index.php?curr...

    Good Luck!

  12. Always remember, preparation always pays off. Both the face-to-face and phone interviews are equally important and deal-killer at the same time. There is a general misconception that phone interviews are less formal than face-to-face interviews, but in fact that is what lands you an opportunity for a face to face meeting.
