  1. How to prevent the air pollution when melting aluminium?

How to purify the recycled aluminium?

  2. I have a problem with the concept of recycling cans. It really makes no sense.  I mean we used to get our soda in glass bottles, and then take the bottles back to get our deposit back. Those bottles would then be sterilized, and re-used.

Now we get them in cans, and to re-use a can requires lot's of energy be put into melting the can down, then re-forming it.

    It really makes no sense.

Some of you are probably thinking "oh but to truck them bottles back to the plant takes more energy than it does to haul cans." Wrong! That truck that brings the pop to the store...it's already going to go back to the plant to pick up more soda, so hauling the bottles back at the same time doesn't use much more energy.

  3. The switch from steel to aluminum cans vastly reduced a serious litter problem in the late 1970's. Why has consumer preference shifted to the less often recycled plastic bottle?

  4. Since most bauxite comes from Australlia, I have no direct problems with the extraction of ore.   It does take a huge amount of energy to turn it into aluminum though.   Recycling takes much less energy to convert it into usable aluminum again, but still isn't cheap.   My only question is is why do you need some questions?
