Question:

Do you have any "green" beauty tips?

I saw a question the other day about beauty tips and one of the answers reminded me of an old "home made beauty tip" before the days of "green" labels. It was to use ordinary (real) mayonnaise with a bit of olive oil as a beauty mask for hair, similar to more commercial hot-oil treatments. I remember the hint from a book I read during the late 60's or early 70's. Another was to make a paste of raw oatmeal as a face mask. Do you have any "home made" or cheap "green" beauty tips that you use? Another was soda in the bath water. What are those tips or any others supposed to do, and if you know, what commercial products have been marketed to replace them?

  1. I read this article the other day: http://ecologue.com/ShowArticle/Four-Pan...

It talks about different things in your pantry you can use for personal/beauty care. I've made oatmeal masks before and sugar scrubs. I've also tried using beer to help cleanse my hair. It's nice to try those more natural things sometime and see how they feel different and any ways they improve things.

I'm not sure of any commercial products that are marketed to replace them -- seems like it would be cheaper, easier and more natural to stick with the original homemade recipes when you find ones that work. Plus, then you can make a small batch when you need it and not worry about shelf life.

  2. Use egg whites as a facial mask.

Use a slightly over ripe cucumber, take slice and rub on face it tightens pores before applying makeup.
