  1. In gym class, tighten your sweat pants.  You'll end up getting pantsed!

  2. Make lots of friends and get to know the school well! NEVER take out the school map and try to find where you are going!

  3. highschool isnt anything like what you see on tv. people dont shove other nerds into lockers or anything like that. its not gonna be a big deal and your gonna laugh when you realize how normal it really is.

  4. "Key" survival tips recommended by a teacher with 23 years experience:

    1.  Do not fall behind.  It is extremely difficult to get caught up once you are behind.  Do all the readings... don't skip them.  Read the next lesson ahead... this really helps you to ask better questions when the material is actually covered in class.

    2.  Tests are more important in high school... perhaps 1/3 or even 1/2 of your final grade will be the result of a single test.  So make sure you study for tests using all the time available.  Studying an hour everyday for 2 weeks is better than cramming 14 hours of study time right before the test.

    3.  Join clubs, organizations, and become involved in your high school.  Volunteer and help out for school events.

    4.  Dont' forget the big picture: If you are planning to go to college, your scores on the ACT and SAT are crucial for grants and scholarships.  It's time NOW to prepare for those tests... gradually, and building your skills.  Also, your GPA (grade point average) is highly important for college admission standards; keep those grades high, because they all count, even your freshman year.

    5.  Consider trying out for a sport.  Try to workout 3-4 times a week to build up your body... believe me, stress will be a lot easier to deal with :)
