Do you have any suggestion of boardgames?

Hello,

I currently teach Englsih to elementary to intermediate students in France... I've thought that creating an English Cub where they could play games like "happy families" and the like would be a good thing to get them speak (or at least try) genuine English... The thing is I'm afraid that this won't be enough... so any suggestion of understandable board games in English for foreign students are welcomed

How about, for beginners: Ludo, draughts, chess - you could supply them with a short list of necessary phrases.

More English use: Monopoly, Cluedo

I also teach English to foreign language students.  I have found a game called 'Hedbanz' to work well.

The students have to guess what the picture is on their headband by asking questions such as 'Does it have legs?' 'Is it alive?' etc.  There are some sample questions in the box which helps those with less confidence.  It's for small groups, but once you have the idea of the game you can also do your own version using post-it notes on the children's foreheads, and they can then work in pairs or small groups.  I have seen this done in English schools to revise characters from a Shakespeare play.

I have also found that they enjoy Cluedo, but it requires less use of English language and is more suitable for pre-teens and teenage children.

A junior version of Trivial Pursuit might work with some pupils who are more able.
