I have never been to volleyball try-outs (or any sport try-outs, fyi) and I have middle school (7th grade) v.ball tryouts next week. Can any one please give me the things I need to practice on, what you do at the try-outs, if I need to bring anything, wear my v.ball shorts, or really anything and everything that could help me!

  1. Sure... Go in there with alot of confidence!!!! practice your serves and controlling your bumps!! Hustle!! Try your hardest!! Wear good running shoes!! A comfortable shirt that you can move in!! Be noticed by how good you are!! But im sure you have nothing to worry about!! Middle school really isnt that strict on who they let intothe team!! Have fun!! and remember everything i have said!!

  2. bring tennis shoes, Knee pads for the times you have to dive for a ball and waterbottle a coach likes it when you come prepared do what comes natrual and get some sleep the night before.

  3. I am a coach for volleyball and have had many VB Tryouts.

At your level, here is what I would recommend:

First, be yourself, the volleyball player you are and not who you want to be.  (Every basketball player wants to be like Michael Jordan)

Secondly, practice on the games fundamentals. Serving, bumping, setting and hitting.  (A coach will look at those more so than anything else)

Third, have a good attitude.  By this I mean, hustle the entire practice or tryout.  Don't have the attitude that you are better than someone else.  Encourage ALL others, even those that might not have the skills you have.  Don't group yourself with your potential friends at the tryouts, this can give a coach a bad signal. Remember..it's you trying out not your group.

You might want to ask the coach what is needed and what to wear.  Some want to keep it simple.

I would suggest doing "something" that identifies you.  Like wear bows in your hair, wear bright colored shoes/shirt or high top socks..something though.   The reason I say this, is many coaches don't know the kids by name, but reference them in a manner on how they are dressed or what they are wearing.

Again, be yourself.  The skills you posses this week will not change that much to make a difference next week.  But..keep practicing..that will give you a definite edge at the tryouts!

    Best of luck!

  4. Go prepared to play, of course.  Start running now to be sure you're in shape.  Practive your overhead and forearm passes.  Pass to yourself over and over (25-50 times) to learn control. Practice your serves too.  Learn to aim the ball to specific areas of the court.  Did you know turning the valve of the ball to the left or right while serving can direct your serve more.  Try it.  Good luck.

  5. May Sound way to obvious but...

Do not let the ball hit the ground.  Dont role your eyes at the coach when he asks to you do something and while your doing it give it 100%

I coach Volleyball and its hard to cut the person who will not let the ball hit the ground and will chase everything down and also have a good attitute and will learn and grow as a Volleyball player

  6. Hustle Hustle Hustle.........do whatever your coach asks full speed.

  7. I would wear your volleyball shorts. That shows you are interested. COme with a good attitude and be focused. Do whatever the coahc wants you to do. When you are going for the ball call for it( say I GOT IT) or over here! THhey love that.Try drills even if you dont know how to do them. Look confident- never show doubt. HAVE FUN!

    good luck!
