  1. If you mean less traffic, would that be on the freeway. Here is a suggestion. If there is an incident on the freeway that is on the other side why are you slowing down to look. You are the one that is causing the traffic tie up. If you want to look at the incident, get off the freeway and drive to the other side and look as long as you want. Others have places to go and people to see. Oh yeah get rid of the uninsured drivers out there.

  2. USDOT  should increase fare on tolls.

    1. Provide more long distance bus service, including areas that not serve by mass transit or Amtrak.

    2. Provide addtional service on all buses.

    3. Improve mass transit.

  3. Build it and they will come.

If you look at the history of urban development, you will see that there is a relationship between making it convenient for people to get places, and people using that convenience to move into the area as residents, customers, workers, etc.

So perhaps you can study the ways in which it is efficient and economical to move people and cargo in densely populated areas, then get politically active in seeing that alternatives are implemented.

Have you tried public transportation ... is it comfortable, safe, convenient ... or do they need serious upgrade?

Some cities have special deals to encourage car pooling, where the car poolers get to use special lanes just for them, cheaper parking.

Chicago has water taxis on the canals.  These are small boats that operate like short range bus service.  Since a lot of people are using this service, it means less people congestion on regular highways.

We are not using our inland water ways effectively for transportation like Chicago does.

Several cities have subways and overhead rails.

There are high speed rails to the airports.

There's also helicopter service from roofs of some buildings.

Two high rises can have a bridge connecting, so you not have to go all the way down to street level, cross street, then go back up again.

Downtown Cincinnati has multi-level pedestrian covered walk ways ... you can walk 10 blocks without once ever having to deal with a cross walk or traffic or the weather.  You can also park car in underground garage.

This is a heck of a lot better than Evansville Indiana, where it is not safe to be a pedestrian anywhere.  If you are shopping at two adjacent stores, you have to get in your car to drive between them.  Several reasons for this.  Evansville does not believe in sidewalks, cross walks that work, and if you are parked at one place while shopping at another, under Indiana law, you are trespassing.

Have you ever noticed how many interstate highways have a grass strip in middle?  A rail line could be built there.  Drive your car onto a special "ferry" part of the train, where it gets locked down for safety, then you go into passenger section, which includes a restaurant, movie theatre, other distractions, a place to sleep, then a day later, drive your car off at your destination.

This would be more economical than everyone buying high priced gasoline.  Or leave your car home, and rent a car at your destination city.

If we could have home and work and groceries in walking distance.  If we were allowed to take grocery cart home from store, and it was able to go over the sidewalks comfortably.  Perhaps a shopping cart that folds up for easy return, that we pay some rental fee to the grocery place to borrow, like we can borrow movies, library books.

Have parking meters in front of people's houses, where the people whose houses it is get to keep half of the money that goes into the parking meters.  This way it is cheaper to park in front of your own house, and less likely other people park there.

If someone parks in front of your place, and the parking meter has not been paid, then you are authorized to issue them a parking ticket, mail the copy into the city.

That would mean less people using your street to look for a parking place.

  4. Building more roads and adding lanes has been the cure in the past,   obviously it isn't working.    In fact,  that just makes more traffic possible.

As fuel prices rise,  look for more carpooling,   mass transit,   and bus options.   Many will relocate closer to work,  or find work closer to home.     More small business will operate from home to eliminate travel and the cost of outside locations.

  5. Get rid of all the illegals here.. that would free up a ton of room and we would have more jobs! 2 birds with one stone! Too bad we all know thats not gonna happen..

  6. What josh said, if an illegal hits you they don't have insurance, so guess who pays for your repairs or medical bills.

Even worse, my highschool friend and his girlfriend where hit in a crosswalk by illegals doing 75mph in a 30mph zone, my friend and his girlfriend where killed instantly, all they got was deported, no criminal charges.

  7. build flying cars! jk, idk, yea totally build more roads so there would be less traffic.
