Question:

Do you have any wonderful, filling vegetarian meal recipes?

So, I eat meat. But lately I've just been having a problem with it. I was raised eating it and the tastes/textures have become almost a habit, I guess. When I think of what I'm eating, though, it appalls me, yet I find myself ordering things when eating out that include meat, again, just out of habit.

I ~really~ want to break the habit. I figure if I start with learning what's yummy, and how to cook it, I will be mindful of what I'm ordering when going out as well.

Anyway, any recipe and/or restaurant suggestions would be wonderful. Thanks so much in advance.

~Namaste'

  1. well when my parents barbecue... they slice up zucchini, squash and onions and tin foil them and like just put then on the grill for like 15 Min's... sometimes they will put spices on them but i like them with butter... there really good and filling

  2. I love to saute up a variety of veggies in some olive oil and garlic--I use zucchini, broccoli, yellow squash and mushrooms.  I add in some prepared al dente pasta, toss and heat through.  If you eat cheese, add some.  I put the mushrooms in right before adding the pasta as, of course, they don't take near the time to cook as the others.

Have you tried grilling portabella mushrooms yet?  Really easy, put them gill side up, brush with olive oil and season to your liking, you can eat them on a bun or by themselves.  They are great sliced up on a bed of greens.

  3. Something filling?  Try making a Vegetable stew with your choice of veggies, cook it with your choice of seasonings, add a bit of flour or corn meal to thickin it.  Cook it in a large pot and when it thickins, then poor it in a casserole pan, and cover it with mashed potatoes.  Then bake it in oven for 20 minutes or until golden on top.  You will never know it doesn't have meat in it!

  5. Yeah, start with a nice stea... wait. No sorry.

I recently learned of a recipe for a nice soup 'French Onion Soup', it's extremely nice, I haven't stopped making it since I found out about it.

  6. I like the "Fantastic" boxed mix that imitates taco meat. It's great and you can use it and you would never think you were eating a meat substitute. I also mix in a little taco sauce with it when I make it. They have many other mixes as well you can try.

  7. That's great that you wanna go vegetarian! Ok, well if you are just plain and simple, then you can heat up some veggie burgers, nuggets, corn dogs, etc. But if you want an actual meal, you can make pastas and pizza with veggies on it (very good!) I would also suggest vegetable soups. And always remember to eat fruit! Good luck! =)
