Hi,

Our photograph has offered us "free engagement session"...have you tried one? How it is gonna look like?

  1. I did...it was great. The photographer wanted to see how we interacted in front of the camera-she told us that it really helps couples who are nervous and freeze up when photographed to learn how to still be romantic even though someone is watching. It also gave her an idea of how we look on film-what our better angles are, etc. We were amazed by how easy we interacted with her, and with each other. Typically, the engagement session is either posed with a backdrop, or taken outside and done more voyeuristically. Ours was on railroad tracks in an industrial part of town, and they are sort of rough and artsy-which was a bit more our style compared to the totally posed look. It was really fun! Enjoy it-don't be nervous! :)

  2. Most photography packages include a 'free' engagement session, usually covering an hour or two in any location. This appears to be a way that studios can secure clients while they are still in the beginning stages of wedding planning. When shopping for engagement photography services, couples may be inclined to purchase a larger wedding package that includes the engagement session as part of the deal.

  3. That is getting to be a standard, and a really good idea. This gives you the chance to really check out how they work before the wedding and to get use to each other. Most of the time I see them done outside at a park or something. They are casual portraits and work get on save-the-date cards, newspaper announcements, and just generally nice to have.

  4. Ours wasn't included in the package, but we did hire a different photographer (i.e. a less expensive one) to take some engagement shots. She followed us around Chicago, very photojournalistic style, and some portraits, too, for our save-the-dates and announcements.

I'm glad we did it because it prepared us for what to expect the day of our wedding. I was nervous about it, but a good photographer will make you feel relaxed and tell you what to do if you find yourselves just standing there.

I say go for it. It's free, and you'll probably get some great shots. You can never have too many professional photos taken of you guys! Take advantage of it while you can :)
