Question:

Do you have faith in Food Banks providing for those truly in need and not just "in want"?

I always supported the local food banks until I found out a caretaker we hired to stay with my elderly mom was going to the food bank weekly to get food for her daughter, her mom and herself. My mom paid this woman $150 a day to stay with her and provided her food Monday through Friday. The caretaker made out a 'shopping list' for my mother to fill each week so she could have the food there that she wanted to eat....not including any food I took to my mom's.

It turned my stomach to think this leech was sucking my mom dry and then taking food from a food bank that should have gone to someone who really needed the food. Evidently there is no policing of the people who go to food banks to decide who is in true need.

Anyone had any experience with food banks to know why they don't have some kind of screening process for food recipients?

  1. There are four food banks in my area, all church run, different denominations.  Disbursement is by appt. only.  Any able body showing up for food is put to work first. Stocking shelves or cleaning.  The people running the food banks meet as a group and discuss how things are going.  This is when they compare lists to make sure no one is scamming.

The only thing that disturbs me is they ask for easy meal food.

Dinty Moore stew and such. Apparently the recipients do not care to, or know how to cook from scratch and stretch a dollar.  Here I am making my dollar feed us longer and someone else wants to coast.
