  1. They lots of Smoothies in Italy, but they're not that innocent!

  2. That brand name still hasn't made it here.

  3. I have no idea what you mean by "innocent", but smoothies and milkshakes are called "frullati" here (or "frullato" in the singular). "Frullatore" is the Italian word for blender, and "frullare" means to blend, so it is simply any healthy drink prepared in a blender.

My favorite is made with a banana, an apple, the juice of one orange, a handful of strawberries, and some crushed ice. But you can make them with anything you like, with or without milk or sugar, and either make them at home, or have them made however you like at any bar (the same place you get your espresso or cappuccino).

Here's a cute page that tells about a bar specialized in frullati here in Rome (I must admit I have no idea what the "mysterious smoothie liquid" he mentions is: I've never seen it at my neighborhood bar), although all bars make them.

    Their own website:

This particular place has existed for over 70 years, and makes more than 100 kinds of smoothies.

  4. I didn't see any in Milan last year, but there were plenty of other "home-grown" examples available.

  5. Not innocent smoothies but really good fresh ones!

    Excellent!

  6. innocent smoothies?

    haven't heard of them.
