Do you have issues with your parrot's behavior?

I was having issues with one of my Amazons not staying on her cage. She wanted to climb down and run around on the floor. I wanted her to stay on top of her cage and play. I found this free information and wanted to share it. I would appreciate responses from others who have had this issue as well. I highly recommend positive reinforcement methods with all my pets. It is more humane and a positive trusting way to train all pets. So, please give me your experiences and comments regarding this. Thanks

  1. i have a jendaya conure and he is very tempermental. I've tried that website as well ad it is very informative although it didn't work for me. see things done with positive reinforcement are great however when he doesn't seem to like anything that is where problems arise, so i must use the attention and being very enthusiastic with him.  I think that it is very strange that your bird wants to be on the floor unless there is something that it wants on the floor. try to see if thats it and if it is try to put the mystey thing in its reach of the perch. Also if u are simply putting him on a perch and expectig him to stay (i dont know if this is the case or not) then its not going to happen. He needs interatction. u cant expect him to stay very long with nothing to do. he is bored and wants to explore. my parrot just loves blankes especially fleece that have ties. try puttin small pieces of fabric attached to the perch for preening (the word for cleaning his feathers), he will most likely spend time doing this. also be in the room with him. even if u aren't playing diretly if he can see u then he thinks it is your time with him and will satisfy him. if he stays on the perch and he likes treats give him one after awhile, if not lots of attention after a long period. these things are positive to him and will benifit u both.
