We bought a child's wake board and are not sure how to go about teaching the kids age 7 and 8. We do not have a teaching bar on our boat. What techniques can we use?

  1. a trampoline?

  2. I have a little cousin that learned last year, and he was 5, and he was pretty into skating and snowboarding, which seemed to help. But what we would do is have some one sit out behind him when he was in the water and walk him through it and help him, and he would get up pretty easy because he was so small, but he it took him a while before he could ride much more than 70 feet or so. So to answer you question, I would recommend someone getting in the water with a life jacket and sit behind the rider, and just have him/her keep practicing.

and as for a trampoline, that doesn't really apply for practice, until they are at the stage of getting some legit air, because it helps you get used to pumping the wake.... and also if they do get to that stge and you don't have a trampoline, a pogo stick is a pretty good economic substitute.

  3. Sorry I can't be of more help...but I will say wake boarding is hard for even an adult. I simply suggest trial and error and lots of patients!  Make sure the fins are on the bottom because without those on the bottom of the board to stabilize it, that makes it very hard to balance! I'm thinking that if someone can be in the water with them as they are taking off that might help, hold the back of the board and when they seem to have some balsnce and speed let go and hope for the best.  When I was learning I drank a lot of water with those fins off!  Once you get the hang of it, lots of fun!!! Of course then you want the fins off so you can do spins!!!
