Do you have lightning bugs where you live?

My friend lives in Utah, said there are no lightning bugs there. I live in Illinois,, we have tons of them at night.

Yes. I live in Kentucky-but way North in Kentucky! We have a lot but not as many as when I was young. It was a wonderful time when I was able to show them to my daughters. Kids are amazed by them as I was. My mom used to let me put them in a jar. Now I realize that was cruel and have never even suggested it to my daughters! I'm glad I live in a place that has them!:)

We have them in coastal South Carolina.

Perhaps your friend in Utah lives in a city, where they are not present as often as they are in the country and would also be more difficult to see with all of the city lights.

absolutely. i live in nigeria and lightning bugs are usually everywhere at night. what i do not know is if they bite. sure hope not because that would kill the fun of having to play around with them. though it usually isn't easy 'cos they would fly out of one's grasp before you even catch them.
